Update: A fix is being developed by Raven Software.
Warzone Xbox Live problem has been recognised and Raven Software is working on a patch.
“We’re looking into a problem where Xbox Live Silver customers can’t play Warzone,” said a Microsoft spokesperson.
While a new Warzone season has been released, some users are complaining that they cannot play the game unless they have an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
As we noted in our Warzone Season 3 live blog, the problem was quickly brought to the attention of other Twitter users, who were none too pleased. Call of Duty: Warzone is not only free to play, but Microsoft has also implemented a policy modification to Xbox Live Gold to guarantee that free-to-play games won’t need a paid subscription for its online multiplayer functionality..
In light of this new condition, gamers are understandably enraged.
One participant bemoaned, “The latest Warzone update destroyed my game,” and posted a screenshot to prove it.
“My Xbox Live Gold membership hasn’t expired in months, and I’ve been able to play Warzone and other free-to-play games. Last year, Microsoft implemented that policy. Please make the necessary corrections.”
At the time of this writing, neither the developers nor the publisher have recognised or replied to the concerns of a large number of other people.
There was a Warzone upgrade at the end of 2013 that accomplished exactly this, and it’s not the first time this has occurred. At the time, the inaccuracy was caught by the @charlieINTEL Twitter account, which tweeted:
It seems that the overnight update has made Xbox Live Gold a necessity to play Warzone again, despite the fact that free to play games on Xbox no longer need it. “
However, it’s not ideal to force gamers to cope with this issue again. This is one of a few problems that have surfaced after the upgrade was sent out. It’s infuriating that no one seems to know what’s going on or when it will be resolved.
Some players have reported seeing a ‘Corrupted Loadout Data’ problem, which Raven Software is currently working to resolve. Despite the company’s promise to tweet an update after the issue was rectified, there has been no follow-up message since.
Undoubtedly, this issue will be resolved in the near future, but it must be frustrating for fans who have already dealt with the massive upgrade, ranked play not functioning, error warnings, and now this.
