Netflix’s new vampire series is a big hit among subscribers.

First Kill, Netflix’s new supernatural adolescent romance series, is the latest in a long line of offerings from the streaming service. Critics aren’t quite as enamoured with the sexy drama series, which premiered just a few days ago, as audiences are.

The programme revolves on two families: the Fairmonts, a group of vicious vampires, and the Burns, a group of monster-hunters. With Juliette (Sarah Catherine Hook), the Fairmont’s newest assassin, getting ready to commit her first murder, things get tricky when she develops love for her intended victim, Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis).

There are simmering tensions between the two clans and the fact that both Juliette and Calliope are destined to murder the other, making their forbidden passion a major roadblock to their relationship’s progress. That being said, youthful love isn’t always a walk in the park!

Series creator Victoria Schwab took inspiration for the show’s title from her short tale of the same name. No wonder it’s become one of Netflix’s most popular shows, given its obvious resemblance to such popular vampire series as Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, and True Blood. Keeping Sweet: Pray and Obey is presently rated third behind Stranger Things season 4 and the streaming service’s latest real crime docuseries.

First Kill now has an audience approval rating of 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating that viewers are especially taken with the teen drama (opens in new tab). The play has received just a 50 percent rating from reviewers, which is rather low for a performance of this calibre. CNN referred to it as “ripe for mocking,” but The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab) called it a “pleasant diversion that goes down easy enough.”

First Kill appears to be another series that has divided fans and reviewers. However, Netflix’s primary goal is to keep its customers happy, so the show’s early reaction is likely to have delighted the streaming service. A second season of this fictional world of vampires and vampire hunters may be in the works based on the first eight episodes. Netflix has yet to decide whether or not to order a second season of First Kill.

In the meantime, Netflix has now officially launched Squid Game season 2 on the streaming service. There was a very quick teaser and a statement from the show’s creator on the stream confirming the news, which hinted at the possible return of several key characters. High-profile renewals and new programmes, like First Kill, may be Netflix’s best hope of keeping members on board for the long haul
