The Basic plan costs $1 extra each month, up from $8.99. This plan only allows users to watch on one screen at a time, and the quality is limited to 480p standard definition, with no HD streaming available. The Standard plan costs $1.50 extra each month, up from $13.99. It supports 1080p HD streaming and allows users to watch on two displays simultaneously.

The most costly Premium plan, which was formerly $17.99 per month, is now $2 more expensive each month. It allows customers to view on four screens at once and is the only plan that offers 4K HDR streaming.

According to Netflix, the new tariffs are effective immediately for new users and will “gradually take effect” for all current customers. Current members will receive an email 30 days before their prices change, giving them the chance to change plans or cancel.

Netflix upped its pricing in October 2020, so it’s been a little more than a year since the last substantial price increase. The Premium plan is currently $4 more expensive than it was in fall 2020.

The Basic Netflix plan is now double the price of the $4.99 per month Apple TV+ subscription, and the Premium plan is four times the price. Netflix, of course, has a lot more content to offer than Apple TV+, but it is also more expensive than most other streaming services on the market.

Hulu’s basic subscription, for example, starts at $6.99 per month, and the no advertisements plan is $12.99 per month. HBO Max costs $14.99 per month, Disney+ $7.99 per month, and Peacock Premium $4.99 per month.

Hulu, Apple TV+, and other services do not charge extra for higher resolution streaming, with even the most basic plans supporting 4K.
