New ‘Smart Stylus’ shown in Motorola Edge 30 Pro pictures leaked online.

On February 24, Motorola is holding a worldwide launch, and the Moto Edge 30 Pro is expected to hit the stage. Latest leaks have confirmed our suspicions that the Edge X30’s exterior design would be the same as the Edge X30’s inside design.

Evan Blass, a.k.a. evleaks, just posted some new pictures of the, showcasing the device’s front and rear.

Samsung has resurrected the Galaxy Note series in all but name with the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which has a dedicated slot for the S Pen. In the meanwhile, fresh photos of the Motorola Edge 30 Pro have surfaced, showing a phone with a large stylus of its own.

With a pinhole camera on the front and a triple-camera array in a traffic-light pattern on the back, Evan Blass’s secret Twitter account shows that the phone isn’t too far distant from current Edge series models.

The stylus, on the other hand, is intriguing. Motorola has previously offered stylus-enabled phones, but they have often been low-end models, and this one seems to be a step up in quality.

Perhaps it’s an optional item, like the folio cover that appears at the top of this post. As you can see, it seems to function as both a kickstand and a notification window when unfurled.

Is this a common blunder?

According to a rumour from last month, a folio cover that appears quite similar to this one would be included with the iPhone X. No matter how you look at it, it’s hard to deny that the Edge 30 Ultra and Pro look very much alike.

The ‘Smart Stylus’ was shown to reside in a pouch on the back of the phone, where it could be charged wirelessly from the host device.

Motorola’s next Smart Stylus will be able to do air motions, control media playback and act as an air mouse on external screens according to a rumour.

It’s frustrating, regardless of how sophisticated it is, that it won’t dock with the phone and instead will be an add-on. Users were forced to either put a hefty cover to their phone or live in continuous worry of losing their S Pen with Samsung’s Galaxy S21 Ultra and the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

Of course, with phones costing $1,199 and $1,799, the insistence on purchasing the S Pen separately was a source of irritation, and Motorola stands to benefit greatly from this situation. While we don’t know the Edge 30 Pro’s pricing, the Edge 20 Pro sold for £649, which works out to around $700 without tax. Most consumers are willing to put up with a worse stylus on the new model if it is priced similarly.

A release date has not been mentioned, but promotional images like this don’t appear until it’s around show time, so we may expect an official announcement soon.
