Delicious Homemade Crumpets Recipe

Crumpets were created for the first time in 1382. It wasn’t called crumpets back then, but “crompid cake.” Later, in the 17th century, it was dubbed a crumpet. This soft and spongy cake is particularly popular in the United Kingdom.

In a mixing bowl, combine dried yeast, warm milk, white flour, caster sugar, and bicarbonate of soda to make crumpets. To make the crumpet batter, combine all of the ingredients. Melt butter in a pan and add ring moulds. To make traditional English crumpets, pour the batter into the moulds and cook on both sides.

This is only a summary; I will explain the entire recipe below, including the ingredients, time required, and nutritional values. So, let’s get started. There are also a variety of breakfast recipes that you can try. Check them out as well.

What are crumpets?

They’re a cross between an English muffin and pancakes, and they’re from England. Their distinctive feature is a surface riddled with holes that allow butter to permeate through from top to bottom. The surface has a distinct almost “spongy” texture, but the inside is extremely fluffy, just like bread!

Warburtons Crumpet Recipe

Warburtons is the largest and most popular commercial crumpet manufacturer in the United Kingdom. Every year, they produce over 700 million of them!
They shared their secret crumpet recipe for people to make at home to cheer up the UK public during the lockdown. Though I doubt it’s the exact commercial batter recipe (it was probably adapted for home cooks), the end result is EXACTLY like store-bought crumpets.
After many, many, MANY failed crumpet attempts over the years (including by notable chefs! ), I am still amazed at how perfectly perfect these crumpets are – and how simple they are to make!
