New Netflix series has received a perfect rating from critics.
Netflix may be going through a rough patch right now, but it’s still churning out quality stuff. Consider this new Netflix programme, which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from reviewers and consumers alike.
Set at the fictitious Truham Grammer High School in England, Heartstoppers is a coming-of-age romance story about a group of teenagers. Charlie Spring, a high school student, falls in love with Nick Nelson, a member of the school’s rugby team, in the series. In the first eight-episode season, we see their developing romance as well as the problems that come with youthful love. It also addresses a number of difficulties that members of the LGBTQ+ community confront on a daily basis.
It features Kit Connor as Charlie, along with Joe Locke as Nick, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, and Kizzy Edgell as the other main characters. It is based on Alice Oseman’s Webtoon comic and graphic book series. A fifth and final chapter will be released later this year to wrap off the first season, which covers the events of the first two volumes.
A week after its Netflix release, Heartstoppers has already received a slew of excellent reviews. The programme now has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregation site. The show’s ability to portray the feeling of being an adolescent, as well as its deft handling of the show’s more serious issues, has been particularly lauded by critics.
The adolescent drama is also catching on with Netflix users. Heartstoppers has a 98 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating and has already made it into Netflix’s top 10 most-watched films on both sides of the water.
Heartstoppers stands at number eight on Netflix in the United States, ahead of Russian Doll season 2, while in the United Kingdom it ranks even higher at number four, ahead of Bridgerton season 2. Heartstoppers is likely to surge in the rankings in the coming days thanks to strong word-of-mouth.
Everything points to Heartstoppers having a long and successful run on Netflix, from the positive reviews to the high level of social media participation to the abundance of source material to adapt. Season 2 of Heartstoppers is far from a lock at this point, given that the streamer has a history of cancelling series despite rave reviews.
It’s possible that Netflix will want to ride the wave of positive response to Heartstoppers for some time. The world’s largest streaming service has had a rough few weeks. First time in over a decade Netflix has reported a loss of members in the first quarter of the year.
