A sequel to 2018’s God of War, one of the finest PlayStation 4 games ever made, God of War Ragnarok is in the works. And presumably, it’ll come in 2022, but we’d not be very shocked if it slid from this release schedule once again.

With the PS5’s increased processing capability, God of War Ragnarok’s gameplay video already looks spectacular. Kratos and Atreus are returning to the Nine Realms of Norse mythology, and it looks like they will see more of them this time. We recommend playing God of War on the PS5 while you wait, since the PS5’s upgrades can elevate the landmark journey to a whole new level.

God of War Ragnarok is expected to get more attention as the year progresses, most likely in the summer and fall. While we wait for further information regarding God of War Ragnarok, this is what we know thus far.

Releasing date rumours for God of War: Ragnarok

It looks that God of War Ragnarök will be released in 2022, however Santa Monica Studio has yet to announce a release date.

God of War Ragnarok, on the other hand, has been rumoured to be published in November 2022.

As Santa Monica Studios’ animation director Bruno Velazquez(opens in new tab) just tweeted, “Ragnarök is arriving this year,” this appears believable.

Releasing God of War Ragnarök was initially scheduled for 2020 but has been delayed until 2022. When it comes to big-budget games, we wouldn’t be shocked to see a release date slide at the last minute.

In the trailer and in the plot of God of War Ragnarok

The long-awaited God of War Ragnarok reveal trailer made its appearance during the PlayStation Showcase 2021, much to the delight of fans. It demonstrates how Atreus and his father Kratos interacted as children. The actors from 2018’s God of War, as well as the Norse gods Thor and Tyr, are all back to reprise their roles.

This news does, however, imply that the upcoming God of War will be a direct sequel to the 2018 game. Warning: The last moments of the game foreshadow the events of the Norse epic, Ragnarok. The Norse god of thunder, Thor, appears at Kratos’ house at the end of the film, seemingly to avenge the deaths of his two sons and his brother Baldur.

God of War Ragnarok will follow Kratos and Atreus, who happens to be the trickster deity Loki — as they journey across the Nine Realms. Svartalfheim and Asgard, as well as other locations, are expected to be included.

In addition, we should expect the fight to have a pleasing combination of chaos and weight because of the DualSense controller’s sophisticated haptic feedback.

PS5 and PS4 versions of God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok will be available on both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. It’ll be interesting to see whether Santa Monica Studio can make the game look as well on both consoles as it does on PC. But thus far, the game’s gameplay has been excellent.

After seeing how wonderful the original God of War looked on PS4, it’s safe to assume that the sequel will look just as excellent, especially with all of the visual enhancements made possible by the PS5.

Because of a global chip scarcity affecting game console and graphics card supplies, it’s difficult to locate a PS5 refill right now. Releasing God of War Ragnarok on PS4 and PS3 might benefit those who haven’t yet upgraded to the PS5.

God of War Ragnarok’s future

Is this year’s God of War Ragnarok on track to be a contender for the top PS5 titles? If so, we might be looking at an entirely new category of games.

Santa Monica Studio has a lot of talent, so it’s a hefty ask. To make God of War Ragnarok seem as good as possible on the PS5, Sony needed to be a first-party developer. No matter what, we can’t wait to learn more about the Nine Realms and where the tale goes from here. God of War on PS5 is making the wait for Ragnarok excruciating, so we’ll be cautious about playing it again.
