As reported by Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, God of War Ragnarok will be released for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 in November (opens in new tab).

Following 2018’s God of War, the highly anticipated sequel was initially expected to be released in 2020 but that was put back to 2022. In September, it was supposed to be released, but then it was believed to be delayed until 2023.

Despite teasing a 2022 release, Santa Monica Studio, the game’s creators, has yet to establish a time frame for when it will be available. However, according to Schreier, Sony is expected to announce an official release date later this month, citing various sources.

There are a slew of factors that might cause a game’s release date to shift. As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, many developers have had to alter their workflow substantially. No matter why God of War Ragnarok’s release date was shifted around so much, the evidence we have shows that this first-party PlayStation game should not be a cause for concern.

Is there anything we know about Ragnarok?

There are some slight spoilers for God of War, which will be released in 2018.

It’s possible that God of War Ragnarok may be a direct sequel to 2018’s God of War, in which series protagonist Kratos and his son Atreus travel across Midgard together. God of War’s last episode built up a scenario inspired on the Norse tale of Ragnarok, with Thor attempting to avenge Kratos. The teaser features Kratos and Atreus, as well as the Norse gods Thor and Tyr, so it’s a safe bet that the game will take up just where we left off.

The game will be released on PS4 and PS5, which is significant because new titles for the PS4/Xbox One are no longer guaranteed to be released on the older devices. Forspoken, a PlayStation 5 exclusive, is just one example of a new game shunning older systems. Even if they can’t get their hands on a PS5, players can still look forward to the next adventure of Kratos and Atreus.
