An EV version of GMC’s iconic Hummer is officially on the market, making it one of the most talked-about cars in recent memory. The first gas-powered Hummer was seen differently by different people. Some regarded it as a sign of generosity and luxury, while others saw it as a fantastic off-roader in the spirit of Mad Max.

The internal combustion engine model was discontinued in 2010 and this is a fresh electric reincarnation. Hummer EV Edition1 went into production in 2021, with all the bells and whistles that GMC could think of.. The truck is equipped with 18 outside cameras, an enormous battery, and underbody protection to protect the vehicle’s undercarriage. The GC Hummer EV can do it all.

The $105,595 top-of-the-line reservation is available. As of now, Hummer has no plans to re-release the EV Edition1 model. For those who were fortunate (and affluent) enough to place their purchases early, they began shipping in December 2021.

You may, however, reserve one of the next models with a $100 down payment.

For less than $100,000, there is the EV3X. A 350-mile range and 800 horsepower are expected in the autumn of 2022, when the vehicle is expected to be on sale. The EV2X will cost about $90,000, while the EV2 will be priced at $80,000. A 300-mile-range and two engines are standard on both models, which both have a top speed of 625 mph.

There is, however, a waiting period involved. The EV2 will arrive in 2024 if you choose the Pickup variant, but the EV2X won’t be available until 2023. With 300 miles of range each, the EV3x and EV2X SUV versions aren’t expected to be released until the Spring of 2019. With only 250 miles of range, the EV2 will be available in Spring 2024.

Design and colours of the GMC Hummer EV

Hummer’s pure electric vehicle bears tribute to the original Hummer—albeit with rounder moulding and LED headlights and one colour option: black or white. Because it’s a four-door truck, it should be able to accommodate five persons with ease.

Driver’s footrest modelled like Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit boot adds a unique aesthetic element to the otherwise simple black-and-white cabin. Why? Because the Hummer EV was reportedly deemed a moonshot by its creators, get it?

The Hummer EV’s truck bed is just approximately 5 feet long, so anyone with heavy-duty transporting demands should keep this in mind.

In the rear of the EV Edition1 pickup, you’ll be able to fit two e-bikes, which is roughly the length of the full-length pickup bed.

A folding multi-step tailgate of the Hummer makes it easy to load and unload items from the back of the vehicle.

If you need to move anything over the plains, this all rides on waggon wheel-sized 35-inch tyres.

The top glass panels of the Hummer EV may be removed for open-air riding and then stored in the front trunk or frunk of the vehicle for that open-country vibe. Wow, that’s quite great.

Autonomous capabilities and interior design for the GMC Hummer EV

When you’re driving down the highway, the new Hummer will have GM’s Super Cruise hands-off option, which is the closest thing we have to a self-driving car technology right now.

With Super Cruise, you have to maintain your eyes on the road, but it operates over more than 200,000 miles of roads in the United States and Canada and can undoubtedly minimise driver fatigue on lengthy drives. In case you’re wondering, Tesla’s Autopilot can only be utilised with one hand on the wheel at all times. The same may be said for Volvo and BMW designs.)

Eventually, Super Cruise might become a “Level 3” autonomous vehicle. As a result, drivers may be able to take their eyes off the road in certain situations, but it’s still a long way from being able to travel without any human intervention. Even if it does happen, there’s no guarantee of when.

With a 13.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, you’ll always know what’s going on inside and out—and how much of the truck’s 350-mile range is remaining.

When it comes to the pickup’s suspension, powertrain, and other components, the vehicle provides a wealth of information on the large displays. Additionally, it is compatible with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, if you so want.

Range, performance, and torque of the GMC Hummer EV

The EV Edition1 will have three electric motors (one in the front and two in the back) and 1,000 horsepower when it debuts. It’s originally listed as 11,500 lb-ft of torque, but no word on how much it can pull. The GMC truck will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds thanks to a sports car-like launch control mode. Compare this to the Ford F150, which takes 6.2 seconds to reach the same destination with an internal combustion engine.

The manufacturer is also claiming that the Hummer can go 350 kilometres on one charge. Considering the vehicle’s size, that’s quite a haul. Furthermore, it claims to be capable of recharging a 100-mile battery in only 10 minutes. However, this is based on the premise that you’re utilising a high-speed 800-volt charger. We should be aware, however, that at the time of this writing, 350 kW charging stations are not readily accessible for residential use and are quite hard to find when driving. (See TK and TK for further information on charging.)

The Hummer’s ability to go off-road is one of its most distinguishing features. To that purpose, the vehicle’s regular 10-inch clearance may be increased by an extra 2 inches while using the vehicle’s terrain driving mode. Additionally, the vehicle may be placed into Extract mode, which raises the body by 6 inches. How high is it? According to GMC, this means you can drive through water as deep as two feet without any issues.

“Crab walking” mode is one of the many things we can’t wait to try out in the new Hummer EV Edition1. Because to torque vectoring and rear wheel steering, the Hummer may be driven in a diagonal manner. It’s designed to help you get out of a jam. When you’re attempting to fit this massive car into a small parking place, this function will come in useful.

‘WTF Mode’ is a special mode that puts the majority of the truck’s 1,000 horsepower to the wheels at the start of a race. “Watts to Freedom” (WTF) is Hummer’s version of the “Launch mode” seen in a slew of high-performance automobiles.

A wheelie-popping Hummer is possible with the WTF mode, according to the automaker, but engineers made sure this wouldn’t happen. It’s for “practical safety considerations,” and that’s a sound decision.

Additionally, the Hummer EV will have a translucent “sky panel” that Hummer calls a “Infinity Roof” to ensure that you get the most out of your trips. If you’d want to be able to see and hear everything around you, the panels may be taken off.

Future of GMC Hummer EV

GMC’s Hummer, on the other hand, seems to be a fully developed EV pickup truck that is ready for production. And the company isn’t a startup either. From the Super Cruise in Cadillacs to the heavy-duty Sierra pickup trucks, the company’s technology has been proved on the road. Despite recent battery difficulties, the Chevy Bolt remains a familiar face in the electric vehicle world.

We’re prepared to wager there will be enough consumers with enough cash to keep the Hummer EV Edition1 sold out for some time, even if rival firms are promising considerably less priced electric pickups – both Tesla and Rivian versions are $30,000 cheaper.
