According to leaked pictures from Ice Universe, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 could fix the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s unwieldy thinness (opens in new tab).

Two images purporting to be of Samsung’s Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 3 cases suggest that the Z Fold 4 will get a new squarer shape, as previously reported by IU. Look closely and you’ll see a few differences between the two images despite their distance from each other.

There has been a significant increase in the width of the cases’ two folding sides (and, by extension, the phone itself). A closer look reveals that the phone’s overall dimensions have gotten squarer, much like the Oppo Find N. Despite this adjustment, the Z Fold 4’s displays are claimed to be the same size as those on the Z Fold 3: 6.2 inches on the exterior and 7.6 inches on the inside, respectively.

The rear camera module appears to have grown in length between generations as well. There have been rumours that the Galaxy S22 will be used in the Z Fold 3’s three cameras: the 50MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 12MP 3x telephoto camera.

The Z Fold 4’s casings show no trace of a S Pen silo, which is disappointing but consistent with speculations. A particular version of Samsung’s stylus is required for the Z Fold 3 to work, however the S Pen must be stored separately or in a dedicated case. We’re still expecting for an integrated S Pen on a Z Fold phone after Samsung revived it on the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

A Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor is expected to be used in the Galaxy S22 series (as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 4) to give improved performance over the original Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The Z Fold 3’s Snapdragon 950 is expected to offer even more power than the Snapdragon 888.

This year’s Z Fold 4 will be cheaper than last year’s model, according to another report from Samsung. Even if the Z Fold 3 was originally priced at $1,800, it’s encouraging to see foldables grow more affordable over time and become more accessible to a wider audience.

Samsung’s new foldables are expected to be unveiled in August at the earliest, but all of these anticipated modifications won’t be confirmed until then. In the meantime, keep an eye on our Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 hubs for the latest rumour mill developments.
