Now that Nvidia is offering more RTX 3080 GPUs

The Steam survey GPU rankings show that the RTX 3080 is the fastest rising card.

Most recently released Steam poll results indicate that the RTX 3080 and other models from the company’s 3000 series are selling well for Nvidia.

After being present in 1.27 percent of PCs in April and now 1.51 percent(opens in new tab) in May, the RTX 3080 has gained 0.24 percent, according to the May 2022 hardware survey findings from Steam users.

Additionally, the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 have both risen in the rankings, with the RTX 3070 rising by 0.19 percent and the RTX 3060 by 0.18 percent respectively.

Remember that the RTX 3080, 3070, and 3060 aren’t that close to the top of the overall GPU rankings, of course, in this measurement. As expected, the GTX 1060 takes the top spot (up 7.17 percent), but the RTX 3060 Ti (up 14.4 percent) is closing up on it in 14th, while the 3060 and 3070 are in 10th and 11th, respectively. Meanwhile, the 3080 has climbed to 15th place.

Analysis: Impressive growth – but maybe not for much longer?

Aside from the fact that the RTX 3080 is not a cheap GPU, it’s interesting to see RTX 3000 graphics cards making strong advances across the board, notably the RTX 3080. In light of this, it’s not surprising that the RTX 3080 and other Ampere GPUs are doing better in the Steam rankings as their prices come down.

In comparison to the modest growth the RTX 3080 has enjoyed since the beginning of the year, this month’s increase of 0.24 percent may not sound all that great. However, it is by far the largest upward mover as indicated. Only 1.27 percent of Steam PCs had this graphics card in April compared to 1.11 percent in January of this year, which means that the increase in May is far more than the previous months’ gains.

Given the recent increase in GPU supply and price pressure, we shouldn’t get too excited about any one source of stats—but Valve’s data do line up with what we’d anticipate to be happening given the recent increase in GPU supply and price pressure

It’s possible, as Nvidia has noted, that the increasing trajectory of RTX 3000 graphics cards may be thwarted. While Nvidia’s RTX 4000 cards are scheduled to be unveiled soon, the supply of GeForce GPUs is expected to remain high for the foreseeable future, which means that many gamers will likely hold off on any potential purchase until these forthcoming Lovelace GPUs are on the market. According to reports, the RTX 4080 might be on store shelves as soon as September.
