The iPhone SE 3 has been sighted in the flesh — literally glass and metal — providing the clearest hint yet that Apple’s design is a carbon duplicate of the existing iPhone SE.

The photographs were presented on the Genius Bar podcast by a source chatting to Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech (via AppleTrack). Prosser displayed purported photographs of the iPhone SE 3 to the audience and co-host Sam Kohl via the screen of his iPad mini rather than splicing them into the film, so the quality isn’t fantastic. It’s still notable as the first reported leak of real-life images of the new low-cost iPhone, and we can still pick out some elements.

The new iPhone SE resembles the existing iPhone SE, right down to the black hue, as previously rumoured. Apple is anticipated to keep the iPhone 8 design while updating some of the inner components.

The SE 3 is expected to be equipped with an A15 Bionic processor, which is also included in the iPhone 13 series. This would not only provide the SE flagship phone-grade performance, but will also give it 5G connection, which is a major feature lacking from the iPhone SE 2020. This chip will probably also improve the camera’s computational photography features.

However, 5G is the important element here, as it is included in almost all new Android phones. This should include the next Google Pixel 6a, which is expected to include a similarly powerful CPU in the form of the Pixel 6’s Google Tensor.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone SE in only a few months, during the first Apple Event of 2022 this Spring, rather than with the iPhone 14 series this autumn. It might be accompanied by a new iPad Pro 2022, an iPad Air 5, and possibly an iMac Pro or new Mac Mini, creating a great variety array of gadgets to look forward to.
