New high-end Mac mini is expected to be released this spring

Apple’s forthcoming spring presentation may witness the introduction of a new high-end Mac mini, in addition to the expected iPhone SE 3 and iPad Air 5.

This would be consistent with previous claims from two reliable Apple insiders, Mark Gurman and Ross Young, who said that the next high-end Mac mini may come this spring. Both tipsters did not directly specify the gadget, but if their claims are cross-referenced, they appear to point to the same launch date. Gurman indicated in his most recent Power-On email that, while the forthcoming spring event is likely to centre on smartphone and tablet launches, he also anticipates “at least one new Mac.” Gurman speculated that it may be the next Mac mini or the 27-inch iMac Pro.

Meanwhile, Young just stated that the iMac Pro will not be available until the summer, contrary to his prior assertions of a spring release. So, if Gurman believes that at least one Mac announcement will be made at the Apple Spring Event, and Young rules out the arrival of the iMac Pro, the item in issue may be the new high-end Mac mini.

If the rumours are accurate, Cupertino will likely equip the upcoming high-end Mac mini with one of the Apple Silicon CPUs (likely the M1 Pro and M1 Max seen in the latest MacBook Pro models). And, given that Apple discarded Intel CPUs in favour of the M1 chip in the entry-level Mac mini in 2020, it would make sense for Apple to do the same for the higher-end model as well. This might be the most significant overhaul of the premium-tier Mac mini since 2010.

Back in May 2021, we reported on a leak from a reliable source, Jon Prosser, indicating that the next high-end Mac mini will be slimmer, have more ports, and include a magnetic MagSafe power connector.
