Improved focusing and a new lens for the iPhone 14’s front camera are possibilities.
Take your selfies to a whole new level with the iPhone 15’s new Selfie mode. The front-facing camera on all models is rumoured to be getting a major upgrade in terms of image quality.
An Apple analyst acquainted with the company’s supply chain, Ming-Chi Kuo, has stated that the iPhone 5S and 5C will include autofocus for the first time on their selfie cameras. In addition to naming the manufacturers of the camera’s various components, Kuo goes on to explain how the camera works.

According to Kuo, the new selfie camera module will have a voice coil motor (VCM) to power the focusing, as well as a 6-part lens, an advance from the current 5-part lens. Selfies taken with a 6P lens should have less distortions and artefacts due to reflections in the camera’s less sophisticated lens.
Preliminary speculation has indicated a bigger f/1.9 aperture for the selfie camera (the current iPhones have an f/2.2 aperture). To improve low-light performance, widening the lens’s aperture will allow more light to shine on the sensor below. Apple will have to modify its portrait mode algorithm and other camera features to make up for the decreased depth of field.
According to these reports, the iPhone 14 may be more expensive to produce if this new camera technology is included. According to rumours, the iPhone 14 Pro range will cost $100 more than the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Plus. iPhone 14 Max will start at $899, while the iPhone small is axed from the line-up for 2017. But we don’t know how much the ordinary iPhone 14 will cost.
For the iPhone 14 Pro, a 48MP camera is anticipated to be the sole significant camera update. There are rumours that 12MP will remain the standard for the remainder of the iPhone 14 cameras, including the primary camera on the base model. Comparable Android phones sometimes include cameras with far better resolutions, so this may come as a disappointment. But this hasn’t deterred the iPhone from becoming the finest photography phone according to our list.
