Hackers claim to have leaked around 190 terabytes of data, including source code and biometric unlocking techniques, from Samsung.

The Lapsus$ hacking gang released a 190-gigabyte cache of private data from Samsung Electronics on Friday. The disclosure may be a major security issue for Apple’s opponent.

The data breach was first hinted by the organisation on Friday, according to Bleeping Computer. The organisation went on to describe the breach as “secret Samsung source code.”

Samsung’s TrustZone environment, which performs sensitive functions including hardware cryptography and access control, is reported to be based on this technology. In addition, it seems to feature biometric unlock methods, latest device bootloader sources, activation server source code, and Samsung account authentication and authorization code.

It may also include secret Qualcomm source code.

The organisation has circulated the data breach through torrents, but how much more material they accessed is unclear. It’s also unknown whether the hackers tried to exact a ransom from Samsung, as they did with Nvidia for a previous attack.

SAMSUNG said it is examining the matter.

The potential hacking incident is the latest for Samsung.

As of February 28, at least 100 million Android cellphones have a security issue. Attackers might use the flaw to collect sensitive data from compromised devices through the TrustZone.

Samsung is also embroiled in a throttling issue, with software slowing over 10,000 applications but not benchmarking tools. Samsung claims it is working on a fix. Source
