BOE, based in China, is rumoured to supply displays for the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023

According to a fresh claim from The Elec, China-based display company BOE would supply Apple with OLED LTPO panels for the higher-end variants of the iPhone 15 lineup in 2023.

BOE, based in China, is rumoured to supply displays for the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023

Following unsuccessful attempts by the Chinese manufacturer in 2020 to supply displays for the iPhone 12 series, BOE entered Apple’s roster of display producers earlier this year to build panels for the entry-level 6.1-inch iPhone 13. Samsung manufactures Apple’s higher-end iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max displays, which require more advanced technology.

According to today’s report, BOE is looking to expand its ability to manufacture OLED LTPO displays, which allow for a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, in time for the iPhone 15 Pro, which is expected to be released in 2023. BOE will continue to supply displays for only the lower-tier handsets in the iPhone 14 series, which is expected this fall, while Samsung and LG will continue to supply displays for the Pro series.

Apple is rumoured to be planning a major redesign of the display on the higher-end iPhone 14 models, including the removal of the notch, for the first time since the iPhone X. According to rumors, Apple will replace the notch with a hole punch and a pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display for the TrueDepth system and front-facing cameras.
