Universal Control should operate immediately once you’ve installed macOS Monterey 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4 because the features are enabled by default, but there are some options you may want to tweak or turn off if you’re not a fan. These methods will also be useful if it is not switched on for whatever reason.
How to Set Up Universal Control on Mac
- Launch System Preferences from your Mac’s Dock, from the Applications folder, or from the Apple menu bar ( -> System Preferences…).
- Select Displays in the preferences panel.
- Click Advanced….
- To activate the following Universal Control functionalities, check the boxes: Allow the movement of your pointer and keyboard between any neighbouring Mac or iPad. Push through the edge of a display to connect to a nearby Mac or iPad, and reconnect to any nearby Mac or iPad automatically.

- Launch the Settings app on your iPad.
- Tap General in the sidebar.
- Tap AirPlay & Handoff in the menu window.
- Toggle on the switch next to Cursor and Keyboard (Beta).
How to Adjust or Disable Universal Control on Mac

- Select Advanced… in the sidebar.
- Uncheck the boxes next to the settings you wish to turn off: Allow the movement of your pointer and keyboard between any neighbouring Mac or iPad. Connect a nearby Mac or iPad by pushing through the edge of a display. Reconnect to any nearby Mac or iPad automatically.
It should be noted that Universal Control is still in beta at the time of writing, thus there may be some glitches when utilising it. During our testing, it proved to be quite reliable, albeit we did have an issue where we had to restart the Mac to get it to operate.
