Something nearly as implausible is finally occurring, so you may want to look outdoors for flying pigs. The most recent Windows 11 version seems to provide tabs for File Explorer. In fact, this functionality was requested as far back as Windows XP, and Microsoft finally delivered on it today.

The long-awaited File Explorer tab improvement has been found in the newest Windows 11 preview release, which is now being tested by Windows Insiders. Rafael Rivera, a Windows Insider, instantly turned to Twitter to demonstrate the new functionality, and the Windows community as a whole seemed to be quite pleased with this release.

For years, users have been clamouring for tabs in the File Explorer. Files may now only be moved between places by opening two distinct files in the File Explorer, which is a time-consuming and tedious process. It’s no surprise that tabs are a popular update since they would immediately solve these concerns.

It’s precisely what you’d anticipate from the feature. Similar to utilising tabs in a browser, it’s easy to use. With the addition of a tab interface to the File Explorer window’s top, switching between tabs is now as easy as clicking a button. It’s amazing that Microsoft has waited this long to execute such a basic change.

Although this feature has yet to be publicised, it is now available in the most recent preview edition of Windows 11. Before, File Explorer tabs were used in Windows operating system releases that weren’t eventually made available to all users. As a result, it is possible that this feature will not be included in the next major Windows 11 release.

Since the addition of tabs to File Explorer has been such a popular request, it’s safe to assume that tabs will eventually be available to all Windows 11 users.

We don’t know exactly when the next big Windows 11 update will arrive, but internet rumour has it that it will arrive in the second half of 2022. Perhaps when the next Windows update is released, File Explorer tabs will be included.
