SHAME.

One or two letters may make all the difference in the world when it comes to Wordle puzzles like this one. Only by using two throwaway responses were my efforts to solve it within 4/6 guesses successful. I’ve never had to do that before, but there were so many other options that I had no choice but to go that route.

I’m positive that my selection of the top Wordle start words has something to do with it. A green S, A, and E appeared straight immediately when I used STARE (which I still believe is the best word, regardless of what the NYT’s great new WordleBot tool thinks).

But there were literally hundreds of letters that might have been used in the second and fourth positions.

My Wordle Solver programme informs me that there were 36 answers that followed the pattern S A E after I completed the game. With the T and R ruled out, there were a total of 20, including SHAVE, SLAKE, SNAKE, SLIDE, SCALE, SCAPE and SPACE.

My streak depended on it, therefore I had no option but to rapidly rule out several letters. The letters C, H, L, and D were often in my list of probable solutions, so I settled on CHILD as my second word.
