A much-needed jolt to the resolve.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4’s most intriguing camera, the internal under-display shooter, is in line for an upgrade.

According to Yogesh Brar, the under-display camera in the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is capable of capturing 16MP images. It would be a significant improvement over the 4MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3’s under-display camera.

For a 2021 premium smartphone camera, 4MP is very low resolution, and as expected, it took poor quality images and videos. With a resolution of 16 megapixels, the front-facing camera could produce better-quality images this time around.

However, there is still the issue of photographing via a display. ZTE Axon 30 has been trying for a while to get things right, but images still seem odd due to extra layers blocking the sensor on the phone. Perhaps Samsung, a familiar name in our list of the best camera phones, can come up with some clever software processing or new tech to solve this problem.

Despite reports of a second camera hidden beneath the display, the front-facing camera is still expected to be a traditional punch-hole design with a 10MP sensor. But at least regular selfies and video calls with guaranteed good quality can be taken even without the benefit of the large internal display.

According to Brar’s tweet, there will be more improvements to the rear-facing camera. The Z Fold 4 will have a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide camera, and a 3x optical zoom telephoto camera, similar to the Galaxy S22, but with a 12MP resolution instead of the S22’s 10MP.

According to Brar, a Z Fold 4 will run on Android 12, rather than Android 13, as previously reported. Due to Google’s tradition of releasing its flagship phone with the latest version of Android, the Pixel 7, which is scheduled to go on sale in October, Android 12 makes a lot more sense.

As with the Z Fold 3, the Z Fold 4 has a 6.2-inch screen on the outside and a 7.6-inch screen on the interior, both with 120Hz refresh rates. This appears to be unchanged from last year’s model. In past leaks, we’ve heard that these screens could be shortened and widened to make them more comfortable to handle and watch.

Brar claims that the Z Fold 4 will have a 4,400 mAh battery and support 25W charging, all of which were previously rumoured. Let’s hope instead that the rumoured Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset will deliver both greater efficiency and additional processing power for the Z Fold 3.

In addition to that CPU, 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage will reportedly be available. With the exception of the new 16GB RAM option, these are essentially the same as the Z Fold 3 once more. App multitasking on the larger inner display would benefit greatly from additional RAM.

According to past Galaxy Z launches, the Z Fold 4 won’t be available until August. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to arrive at the same time, helping the company to once again top our list of the best foldable phones.
