However, it has drawbacks, just like any other software or service. One example is when the Outlook software on Windows 11 refuses to open.
We’ve gathered a list of options in this post that should have the Outlook app up and running in no time. So, let’s have a look.
1. OPEN OUTLOOK IN SAFE MODE
If you’ve been using Outlook add-ins to improve its functionality, one of them may be blocking Outlook from opening normally. You may test this by starting Outlook in Safe Mode.
To launch Outlook in Safe Mode, hold down the CTRL key when double-clicking the Outlook shortcut.
Windows will prompt you if you wish to run Outlook in safe mode. To confirm, click Yes.
If Outlook is running well in Safe Mode, you will need to disable all add-ins and restart the software. This is how.
Step 1: Click on the File menu at the top.
Step 2: Use the left pane to navigate to Options.
Step 3: In the Outlook Options window, switch to the Add-ins tab. Use the drop-down menu next to Manage and select COM Add-ins. Then click on the Go button next to it.
Step 4: Uncheck the boxes to disable add-ins and click on OK.
2. REPAIR MICROSOFT OFFICE
If you are unable to launch Outlook even in Safe Mode, you can use the Microsoft Office repair tool to assist you.
Step 1: Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog box, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter.
Step 2: In the Programs & Features window, locate the locate Microsoft Office Suite or Microsoft 365. Right-click on it and select Change.
Step 3: Select Online Repair or Repair and click on the Repair button to continue.
After completing the repair, see if you can open Outlook.
3. DISABLE COMPATIBILITY MODE
Windows Compatibility Mode is intended to assist you in running older programmes and software on Windows 11. However, because Outlook is fully optimised for Windows 11, using it in compatibility mode can result in situations like this one. Here’s how to turn it off.
To access Properties, select the Outlook shortcut and press Alt + Enter. Navigate to the Compatibility tab and uncheck the ‘Run this software in compatibility mode for’ checkbox. Then, click Apply, followed by OK.
4. RESET NAVIGATIONAL PANE
Issues with the navigation pane can sometimes prevent the Outlook programme from beginning properly. If this is the case, resetting the navigation window may be beneficial.
To reset the navigation pane in Outlook, open the Run dialogue box by pressing Windows key + R. Enter the following command after typing it.

5. UPDATE OUTLOOK
Microsoft Office programmes are typically updated automatically. If the update failed, you can manually upgrade the Outlook app in Safe Mode.
Step 1: Press and hold the Ctrl key and double-click on the Outlook shortcut to open it in Safe Mode. Go to the File menu.
Step 2: Switch to the Office Account tab. Expand Update Options and click on Update Now.
If you can’t start Outlook in Safe Mode, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Outlook app instead.
To uninstall Microsoft Outlook, go to the Start menu and search for Outlook. Right-click the first search result and choose Uninstall.
6. RUN SFC SCAN
Another reason you might have problems opening apps and programmes on Windows 11 is if your computer’s system files are corrupted. Fortunately, you may repair those system files by using SFC. This is how.
Step 1: Right-click on the Start menu icon and select Windows Terminal (admin) from the resulting menu.
Step 2: Type in the command given below and press Enter.
sfc /scannow
7. DELETE OUTLOOK APP DATA FOLDER
If the problem persists, the data in the Outlook app may be corrupt. To address this, try deleting Outlook’s app data folder from your PC and reopening Outlook. This is how.
Step 1: Press Windows Key + R to launch the Run dialog box, type %localappdata%, and press Enter.
Step 2: Open the Microsoft folder and look for Outlook Folder.
Step 3: Select the Outlook folder and click on the trash icon at the top to delete it.
8. CREATE A NEW OUTLOOK ACCOUNT
Your Outlook settings are stored in your PC’s Outlook profile. If Windows is unable to access that profile, you can build a new profile and use it to launch Outlook.
Step 1: Click on the Search icon from the Taskbar, type control panel and press Enter.
Step 2: Switch the View type to icons and click on Mail (Microsoft Outlook).
Step 3: Under Profiles, select Show Profiles.
Step 4: Click on the Add button, enter the name for new profile, and click on OK.
Step 5: In the Add Account window, enter your account details and hit Next.
Step 6: Once the profile is created, select your new profile under ‘When starting Microsoft Outlook’ and hit Apply.
Check if you can open Outlook.
