The streamer has already had another success with Inventing Anna. Tinder, Netflix

This month, Netflix has a plethora of fresh offerings for aficionados of real crime. A new drama series on the streaming site is already making headlines after The Tinder Swindler went viral last week.

The nine-part mini-series Inventing Anna centres on Anna Delvey, a con artist who fools the New York social elite into believing she is a German heiress before taking their hearts (and money). Like The Tinder Swindler, the storey revolves on a con artist who deceives others in a variety of surprising ways.

It’s a drama series, not a documentary, and it tells the tale of a dating app con artist named Simon Leviev. Despite its fictional nature, the episode is loosely based on a genuine event that appeared in an issue of New York magazine in 2018. There are some more information in here that are worth reading once you’ve finished the series.

In addition to Julia Garner, who portrays the show’s title character, Anna Chlumsky plays a journalist who comes up with the scam. Arian Moayed, Katie Lowes, Alexis Floyd, Anders Holm, and Jeff Perry round out the ensemble group.

Only a few days old, but Inventing Anna has already made quite a splash on the streaming platform. Tinder Swindler, Love Is Blind, and Love Is Blind’s new season are all competing to be Netflix’s most-watched shows in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively.

A lot of people are talking about Inventing Anna on social media right now, and it’s clear that a lot of people have seen the show. With a short search on any social media site you’ll find the usual assortment of memes about how the fraudster managed to con so many people with such apparent ease.

In 2022, Netflix has had a solid start to the year with the true-crime series. Netflix’s latest price increase is justified by new blockbusters like Inventing Anna and The Tinder Swindler, as well as the return of some old favourites like Ozark and Love Is Blind (although, not everyone is staying subscribed).

Netflix’s original programming is only going to become better and better. Seasons 4 and 2 of Bridgerton, as well as a slew of other true crime programming, will keep customers engaged throughout the year as the service continues to dominate the streaming debate.
