Carl Pei is said to be working on a Nothing phone
The world of cellphones has steadily become smaller in recent years. But one of the two individuals who co-founded OnePlus might be gearing ready to bring out a new phone of his own. Carl Pei, formerly of Nothing, is said to be working on a revolutionary smartphone that will hit the market soon.
TechCrunch, citing insiders, believes that a Nothing phone might be arriving very soon, before the end of next month in fact. The site states that Nothing has been working on this smartphone for over a year. Pei has apparently showed off a prototype to top executives. One of the men he met at MWC 2022 even had his picture taken by TechCrunch, who shared it with the world.
The Nothing Phone, depending on the features, might wind up being a direct opponent to the Samsung Galaxy S22 series (on sale now) and the OnePlus 10 Pro (coming at the end of March) (coming at the end of March). Only the design has been revealed by TechCrunch, and “the insider emphasises that the product would feature a similar design language and ‘elements of openness’ found in Nothing’s original product,” as reported by the publication.

In today’s market, when Android heavyweights like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, and even OnePlus compete for consumer attention, breaking in is a difficult proposition.. The Nothing phone, whatever it ends up being named, will have to significantly amaze reviewers and Android users alike. A grassroots movement and a clear-eyed approach are the only things that can guarantee victory. Earbuds are one thing, a smartphone is a whole other beast altogether.
I’m not exactly sure what to anticipate with this purported gizmo. To be honest, I’m sick with the current crop of players and am eager to see something new. But I’m also a sceptic, and I’ll need to see the Nothing phone succeed to believe it. And I really doubt that Pei can do much to make a difference at this point.
