Sad news Oscars aren’t streaming on Disney Plus

I’m sorry, but why won’t Disney Plus provide a live broadcast of the Oscars in 2022?

A return to pre-pandemic periods will be marked by the Oscars 2022 ceremony, which will include a return to Hollywood’s most opulent in-person event.

Both the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and broadcaster ABC are counting on the presence of A-list stars like Will Smith, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga to pique interest in the Oscars in 2022 and help the show bounce back from its all-time ratings low from the previous year.

If the Academy Awards want more viewers, there’s an easy solution: stream it! The Academy Awards aren’t going to be shown live on Disney Plus, which is a sister service to ABC. Disney Plus, the Oscars and the audience all lose out on a great chance.

For Disney Plus, the Oscars would have been a wonderful fit.

Disney Plus (and its subsidiary Hulu) live-streamed the Oscar nominations, which is odd. A live broadcast for the U.S. was the first time Disney Plus tried with it (it offers some sports live streams in India and Indonesia).

That’s what they stated at the time.” “The Academy Award nominations, announced this morning, served as a trial run for Disney+’s live streaming capabilities in the United States. To ensure that our customers have the greatest possible experience, we will continue to test as part of our continuing and iterative strategy.”

Disney did not, however, feel compelled to follow suit for the big event despite the nominations stream’s overwhelming popularity.

When it comes to live-streaming, the Oscars provide the perfect opportunity for Disney Plus to make its debut. It’s suitable for all ages. Encanto, Luca and Raya and Raya and the Last Dragon are three of the five animation candidates from Disney (West Side Story, Nightmare Alley, Summer of Soul, Cruella and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings). Even Encanto’s mega-hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” will be performed during the occasion.

It’s possible that Disney was restrained by the terms of ABC’s contract with the Academy, or that the commercials that would accompany the show aren’t working properly in real time. Whatever the reason, it’s a huge setback for the Oscars, which might greatly benefit from the increased exposure and accessibility they’d get. As a result of this, viewers, particularly those who have cut the cord, will miss out on the opportunity to watch live television.

In terms of live-streaming, Disney Plus is lagging behind.

For Disney Plus, it’s also a setback. Aside from Netflix, the big rivals have already started to provide live streaming. Aside with the Winter Olympics, Peacock also broadcasts Premier League and WWE matches. Live feeds of your local CBS station, Champions League, PGA, and NFL are available with a subscription membership on Paramount Plus.

Amazon paid for Thursday Night Football with part of their colossal resources. This year’s Academy of Country Music Awards were broadcast live on Prime Video, marking the first time the ceremony has been streamed. In Latin America, HBO Max is experimenting with live sports broadcasting. Even Apple TV Plus has access to Friday Night Baseball on the network.

There’s just so much the new Marvel and Witcher series can do.

Except for Netflix and Disney+, everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon.

They may be the only two streaming services that don’t need live-streaming in order to bring in new users and keep those who already have signed up. They tower over the others. Both companies, though, must demonstrate to Wall Street their ability to develop. There’s just so much the new Marvel and Witcher series can do.

Because of the lack of diversity in programming, I’ve already said that I’d want to cancel Disney Plus Only by adding live events such as sports, awards, music specials or even space launches can the streamer take a significant stride ahead (NatGeo is a major brand on Disney Plus).

A good TV antenna or cable TV alternative will be required to watch the Oscars and not speak about Bruno. Maybe not even at all, according to the worst-case scenarios of the Academy and ABC.
