With the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Qualcomm hopes to power the next generation of high-end Android smartphones that will be released in the second half of this year. Unlike the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 unveiled in November, this CPU will have a number of iterative upgrades.

There will be a 10% boost in CPU performance and 30% improvement in CPU power efficiency with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, according to the chipmaker. There will also be 10% rise in GPU clock rates and 30% power reduction compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Variable Rate Shading Pro for “desktop-quality immersion” will also be supported by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. For connectivity, this chip will handle WiFi speeds of up to 3.6 Gbps and 5G video chats lasting for over 5.5 hours.

This year’s mid-range devices will ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, in addition to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. According to Qualcomm, graphics performance will be up to 20% quicker than the previous generation, AI will be 30% faster, and new camera functions like Deep Learning Face Detection and staggered 4K HDR will be supported.

According to Qualcomm’s Christopher Patrick, the new Snapdragon 8+ and 7 Gen 1 processors “provide revolutionary user experiences in their respective tiers.” For the first time, manufacturers will begin releasing smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in the third quarter of 2022.
