It has been reported that Nothing, the business founded by OnePlus creator Carl Pei, has updated its Ear (1) true wireless earbuds to incorporate Siri functionality, placing them on a more even playing field when compared to the Apple-branded AirPods Pro.

The quality of true wireless earphones is improving. New entrants to the earbud market mean that not only is the technology improving, but it is also becoming more reasonably priced. Nothing has launched its first product, the Ear 1 earbuds, and is the newest firm to join the inexpensive true wireless market.

With Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, as well as Google Ventures, Casey Neistat, Tony Fadell, and Kevin Lin as backers, Nothing has generated a lot of buzz surrounding its debut. Nothing Ear 1 earphones were put through their paces to determine whether they lived up to the hype.

Ear (1) headphones cost $99 and include an in-ear design, Active Noise Cancelation, transparency mode. They also have a charging case with Qi wireless charging and a USB-C connection, while Fast pairing is only available on Android smartphones.

The Ear (1) earbuds are $150 less expensive than Apple’s AirPods Pro, but they provide many of the same capabilities, including a premium design, active noise cancellation, transparency mode, IPX4 water resistance, and up to 24 hours of battery life when used with the charging case, among other things. They now provide Siri assistance as well.

Some specifications, such as Bluetooth 5.2, three microphones per earbud, and earbud weight, are actually better on paper than those of the AirPods Pro, but they lack Apple-specific capabilities like as auto-pairing with the H1 chip, which is included in the AirPods Pro.

The Ear (1) earbuds, which were introduced in July 2021 to considerable fanfare, have amassed amazing sales of more over 400,000 copies since its introduction. They are available in two colours: black and white. They are the business’s first product, and Nothing founder Pei has previously said that the company wants to develop a linked ecosystem of additional items that will go much beyond the genuine wireless earbuds.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei’s consumer tech business, Nothing, has unveiled its Ear (1) genuine wireless earphones. Nothing auctioned off 100 sets of the earphones ahead to their formal unveiling following months of teasing, concept pictures, and even a presale. On August 17th, the Ear (1) earbuds will be available in 45 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, for $99 / £99 / €99.

According to a statement from Pei, the Ear (1) is “a breath of new air” that will “[set] the tone for our linked digital world to come” in a crowded and uninterested market. Pei has previously said that his strategy for Nothing is to create an ecosystem of gadgets that spans an ever-widening range of products.

In addition to the ear-coded circles (red or white) that identify which earbud goes in which, the Ear (1)’s transparent plastic construction makes them stand out from other earbuds since it shows out part of its internal circuitry. Nothing’s hardware and software have been tweaked by Teenage Engineering, a Swedish electronics company.

When paired with a charging case, the earbuds can last up to 34 hours, and 5.7 hours when worn without ANC (dropping to 24 hours and four hours with ANC on, respectively). Qi-enabled chargers may be used to charge them wirelessly or through USB-C. While the Ear (1)’s feature noise-canceling technology that utilises three microphones per earbud, you may adjust the level of noise cancellation to suit your listening situation by selecting from three different levels of light, maximum, and transparent. When the microphones on the earbuds are being used to make calls, the noise cancellation is also cancelling out the background noise.

It’s possible to adjust the Ear (1)s’ controls through an accompanying app, which handles EQ and Find my Earbud functions. They include Bluetooth 5.2 and are water-resistant to IPX4, so they should be able to withstand perspiration and minor splashes without any issues at all. Compatible Android devices will be able to quickly link using the QuickPair app.

On July 31st, Nothing will begin selling a limited number of the earbuds on its website, which will go on public sale the following month. The Ear (1) earbuds will be reviewed in detail in the near future.
