You’re in luck if you liked the most current Tomb Raider trilogy. A new Lara Croft adventure is in the works at Crystal Dynamics, which made the last three Tomb Raider games: Tomb Raider (2013), Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Unreal Engine 5, Epic Games’ most recent development engine, is being used to make the game. As a result, Crystal Dynamics has a wide range of options when it comes to the series’ future.

Crystal Dynamics executive producer Dallas Dickinson revealed the following on the official Tomb Raider Twitter account:

Unreal Engine 5 is being used in the creation of the upcoming Tomb Raider game, Dickinson claimed. In order to provide the high-quality, cinematic action/adventure experience that Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider franchise’s fans demand, “our objective is to push the envelope of fidelity.”

Dickinson’s announcement contains two critical bits of information, despite the fact that there isn’t much more to rely on. In the first place, Crystal Dynamics is still in charge of the renowned Tomb Raider series, and in the second place, the business plans to use the potent Unreal Engine 5 in its upcoming game. Shadow of the Tomb Raider was made by Crystal Dynamics using their own in-house engine, Foundation, which was built particularly for the Tomb Raider series.

However, there is still a lot we don’t know about the Tomb Raider franchise. Just how much of the 2013 rebooted Lara Croft saga will be continued, how many times the narrative will be reset, and how much of an older incarnation of the character will be explored are all unknowns. To be fair, Crystal Dynamics’ most recent trilogy of Tomb Raider games is a tad more straightforward and straightforward than prior entries in the series’ narrative.

As for what Unreal Engine 5 can achieve that the Foundation Engine couldn’t, it’s hard to say. Despite Epic’s claims that Unreal Engine 5 would offer improved visuals, improved performance, and simpler development tools, the performance of a game cannot be solely determined by its engine. Still, Crystal Dynamics will have to make the best use of the engine’s capabilities and deliver thrilling gameplay and a compelling narrative for the game.

It’s unclear if this new Tomb Raider game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store or be released on other platforms because of the Epic Games engine. In the coming months or years, Crystal Dynamics is sure to answer all of these issues and more.
