Motorola Moto G71s tipped with 120Hz OLED display, Snapdragon 695

The Moto G82 was revealed by Motorola last week. This phone appears to be substantially identical to the original G71s that was surreptitiously released in China earlier this week. What we do know is that this year’s G71 is a slight improvement over previous year’s G71 model.

The Moto G71s’ AMOLED screen has grown from 6.4″ to 6.6″ in size. Even though it retains its FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate has been added to this screen. DCI-P3 and NTSC colour schemes are both fully supported, as is DC dimming on the display. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos capabilities are also used for entertainment.

If you don’t care about that, you’ll be OK with the G71s using the Snapdragon 695 chipset. Starting at 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage, this model has no lower capacity alternatives. As soon as you open the package, you’ll find Android 12 preinstalled (with My UX 3.0). Despite the larger screen, the battery capacity and charging speed remain the same at 5,000mAh and 33W, respectively. The camera bump is the only thing that doesn’t fit in the 8mm-thick packaging.

Starting with 50MP’s primary sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), it also has a sensor with 4-in-1 pixel binned data (for 1.28m pixels). The 8MP ultra-wide-angle (121°) camera and the 2MP macro camera are situated next to one other. The 105° wide-angle lens on the front 16MP selfie camera is amazing. Motorola envisions this as a phone for vlogging, therefore it has both a front and back-facing camera.

Price is the final point to consider. Currently, this appears to be a China Mobile-only offering, with a price of CNY 1,700 ($250/€240/19,500) for the 8/128GB variant. That’s a difference of CNY 100 in price between the standard G71 and the 8/128GB version.

Check out the G82 for €330 in Europe if this phone interests you. For €250, you can get the Moto G52, which has a 6.6-inch AMOLED display, but it has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 4G-only Snapdragon 680.
