When it comes to cancelling customers, Netflix has developed the reputation of being unrelenting. It’s for this reason that Netflix customers have learnt not to get too attached to their favourite series, since a sudden cancellation is always a possibility.

With a slew of original programmes currently in the works, the world’s most popular streaming service is only increasing its reputation in 2022. That these programmes only had a single season to acquire a following isn’t helping things much either. In addition to series, Netflix is said to have cancelled a Will Smith feature.

Now, we’re asking just what Netflix considers a success. A programme like Stranger Things (see out that new Stranger Things season 4 teaser, honestly), Bridgerton, or The Witcher appears to have a constant fear of cancellation hovering over it.

This list of Netflix cancelled programmes in 2022 is sure to grow in the following months, but for the time being, here are all of the shows that have been axed so far.

On The Verge

This time Netflix revealed a show’s termination through a remark made by the show’s creator on a separate Instagram post. When questioned about the status of season two, On The Verge co-star Julie Delpy said, “Cancelled, but they neglected to mention it was cancelled.”

An episode of On the Verge featured four women in their late forties as they struggled with job, love, and midlife crises in a light-hearted comedy-drama. Netflix and StudioCanal co-produced the programme, which also featured Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Jones, Alexia Landeau, and Giovanni Ribisi. It only lasts for one season, which consists of 12 episodes.

Archive 81

There will be no more Archive 81 for Netflix subscribers to explore, since the spooky series has been cancelled after just one season. Adapted from a horror podcast of the same name, the programme debuted to rave reviews when it first premiered. Apparently, Netflix didn’t think Archive 81 deserved a second opportunity, since the programme has been officially cancelled.

Season one finished with a cliffhanger that now looks to be unsolved, making this even more difficult to accept. The discontinuation of this Netflix series is the most painful of the ones on our list.

The Baby-Sitters Club

Netflix’s modern-day version of Ann M. Martin’s popular series of children’s books has at least lasted longer than HBO’s 1990 effort. Even though Rotten Tomatoes gave The Baby-Sitters Club a flawless score of 100 percent, the show was cancelled after just two seasons.

Similar to the books that inspired it, the programme follows a group of fifth-graders in the fictitious Connecticut town of Stoneybrook as they begin their own babysitting service. Even if there won’t be any new episodes, this adorable series is still worth viewing since it’s full of positive optimism, which we could all need right now..

Gentefied

According to Netflix’s cancellation policy for 2022, the first programme to be terminated is Gentefied. America Ferrera (of Ugly Betty fame) produced the half-hour comedy-drama, which followed three Mexican American cousins in Los Angeles’ Boyle Heights. Many real-world topics were addressed in a humorous and open manner, including immigration, divorce, and gentrification. Despite the positive reviews, this was another instance of people not hitting play.

“We have to reconsider the manner in which we appreciate” this sort of “revolutionary work,” says co-showrunner Linda Yvette Chávez in a lengthy address to fans. We can’t use metrics and algorithms to quantify the genuine effect of what we achieved here,” she says. One can only agree with this remark.

Cooking with Paris

Cooking with Paris was cancelled by Netflix after only six episodes, which isn’t as bad as some of the others. The name tells you everything you need to know about this programme, which is presented by Paris Hilton, a typical culinary show.

Nailed It! and Is It Cake? are two of Netflix’s most popular cutlery shows. With guest appearances from Kim Kardashian West, Saweetie, and Demi Lovato, this sitcom couldn’t even attract viewers. There are times when a recipe simply doesn’t work out, and Cooking with Paris looks to be one of those instances. Rotten Tomatoes’ 25 percent score could tell you everything you need to know about why this programme won’t return for a second season.

Another Life

As the first season of Another Life shown, reviewers and audiences don’t always agree. The sci-fi show was somewhat of a critical punching bag, garnering a dismal 6 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but Netflix members appeared to find the programme much more digestible rating it a respectable 69 percent . Netflix saw enough in the show’s popularity to approve a second season, but the show’s cancellation of Another Life means that astronaut Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff) won’t be returning for a third mission.

To be honest, this one just seemed inevitable to me. Another Life is a special effects-heavy production presumably with a greater budget than other series, and its second season hardly appeared on Netflix’s most-watched list with the streamer staying mute about its success, a tell-tale indicator of an underperforming show. You should instead watch the whole six seasons of The Expanse.

Bone

Netflix has revealed this month that the animated version of Bone, a famous comic book series, is no longer in the works. Is Netflix dumping series before they have even had a chance to broadcast an episode, or is this a new trend?

Netflix Animation’s Kids & Family division has been through a rough patch recently, leading to the show’s cancellation. A long-in-development animated Bone adaptation has been scrapped due to behind-the-scenes conflict, according to The Wrap, which cites “many high-profile projects.”

Pretty Smart

After just a few episodes, Netflix isn’t afraid to terminate series that aren’t doing well, and this is certainly the case with Pretty Smart. After a brief 10-episode run, the streamer has cancelled the bubbly comedy. Furthermore, the series concluded with a cliffhanger that may never be addressed, which is bad news for fans.

After getting rejected, Chelsea (Emily Osment) is forced to move in with her carefree younger sister Claire (Olivia Macklin) in order to get her life back on track. Chelsea and her sister’s three roommates immediately become friends, and she develops feelings for Grant (Gregg Sulkin), who happens to be Claire’s ex-boyfriend as well.

Despite its traditional comedy concept, Netflix’s Pretty Smart failed to attract an audience when it premiered last October and fell short of the most-watched list. Rotten Tomatoes likewise gave it a lacklustre review, giving it a 40% rating.

Netflix series that will end in 2022

Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie’s last twelve episodes will debut on Netflix on April 29, bringing the series to an end after seven seasons on the streaming site. For a Netflix original series, a seven-season run is nearly unusual. Due to a production issue with Covid-19, the show’s swansong has been postponed, but fans are ready to say farewell to these cherished old birds.

Gracie and Frankie, which premiered on Netflix in 2015, portrays an odd couple matching between Grace and Frankie after their spouses leave them to marry each other. Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin feature in the show, with Martin Sheen and Sam Waterson portraying their ex-husbands, respectively. However, fans were given plenty of time with Grace and Frankie before saying goodbye, which is something that showrunner Marta Kauffman voiced regret over in her statement.

Locke & Key

As Locke & Key comes to a conclusion, Netflix and the program’s creative team have come to an agreement that the show will not be renewed beyond its three-season run. According to showrunners Carlton Cuse & Meredith Averill, the programme had always been intended to continue for three seasons. They also expressed gratitude for the chance to tell the “amazing narrative” of Joe Hill & Gabriel Rodriguez “the way we wanted.”

After their father’s death, the Locke siblings relocate back to their ancestral house, which becomes the focus of the supernatural thriller series. A collection of magical keys with distinct properties is found in the estate upon arrival, as as various other strange mysteries. In the latter part of this year, the show’s third and final season will be published on DVD.

Ozark

There’s a decent chance Netflix wishes it hadn’t had to say goodbye to Ozark. The last season of the Jason Bateman and Laura Linney-led sitcom has already dropped half of its run. In a statement to the press from showrunner Chris Mundy, Bateman has said that this four-season milestone was the proper moment for everyone involved, including Mundy. He said to Entertainment Weekly that the goal of this last point was to ensure that they didn’t overstay their welcome.

The Byrde family has a chance to escape their local mafia woes in the second part of the season, but there’s at least one catch. On April 29, Ozark season 4 part 2 will conclude and bring the series to a finish.
