Kia India, Hyundai’s sibling company in India, is building a name for itself. The Kia Karens, a conventional car that was recently produced, has been a great seller in the country. Kia, on the other hand, is prepared to join the electric revolution in India. India’s first all-electric vehicle will be unveiled by the Kia EV6 by the South Korean firm next month.

Bookings for this much-anticipated vehicle began this week. Reservations are being taken for just 100 units at a cost of Rs 3 lakh each.

The first batch of 100 electric vehicles that Kia intends to sell in India will be imported. Because of the hefty customs duties associated with EV imports, Kia is merely taking this step as a temporary measure before moving forward with plans to produce EVs in India. As a response to the growing demand for compact electric SUVs in developing countries, Kia will build one in India. The government has already selected the South Korean firm for its production-linked incentive programme for environmentally friendly vehicles.

Kia EV6 reservations can be made at 15 dealerships in 12 Indian cities.

Kia EV6: Features and price

With the E-GMP platform at its core, the Kia EV6 will serve as a springboard for Hyundai’s and Kia’s respective electric-car initiatives. Kia’s EV6 is the first of 14 battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) it expects to release by the year 2027.

All-electric crossover GT Line trims will be offered in India with a multi-charging system, the world’s first charging technology that works with 400V and 800V chargers without requiring an additional controller. Using a 350KWh charger, the 800 V charger can charge the vehicle from 10% to 80% in as little as 18 minutes.

The 77.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack in the India version of the EV6 will generate 229 PS electric power in 2WD and 325 PS in the AWD version. According to the WLTP combined cycle, the car can drive up to 528 kilometres on a single full charge. The Kia EV6 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.

Black suede seats and vegan leather bolsters adorn the Kia EV6’s all-black interior. The Kia EV6 will be offered in India in Moonscape, Snow White Pearl, Runway Red, Aurora Black Pearl, and Yacht Blue.

Kia EV6 will feature Panoramic Dual 31.24 cm (12.3″) Curved Displays with Navigation and Driving Data and Vehicle Functionality Displays. There’s also an ADAS and an Augmented Reality-enabled head-up display (HUD) with data on vehicle speed and turn-by-turn directions, too. The 14-speaker Meridian Sound System is expected to be another standout feature.

It is anticipated that the new electric vehicle, which is likely to cost roughly Rs 60 lakh, will be available for purchase on June 2, 2022.
