You may use the same cursor and keyboard on any Mac or iPad that is registered into your iCloud account thanks to Universal Control. You can use your Mac’s trackpad and keyboard to manage the iPad if you have a MacBook Pro and an iPad next to it, for example. If you’re using an iPad with a keyboard, you can do the same thing.

Universal Control is enabled by default in Mac OS X Monterey 12.3 and iPadOS 15.4, but you may want to tweak the settings or turn it off if you’re not a fan of the function. Alternatively, you may wish to totally disable it. The following is an example of how to do it this way.

Disabling Universal Control on a Mac is simple.

Through the Dock, the Applications folder, or from the Apple menu bar ( -> System Preferences…), you may access system preferences.

In the preferences panel, click on Displays and then click OK.

Universal Control may be accessed by clicking it.

Disable the following options by unchecking the boxes next to them: Allow your pointer and keyboard to travel between Macs and iPads that are in close proximity to you. You may connect to a nearby Mac or iPad by pushing through the display’s edge, and it will automatically reconnect to any other Mac or iPad that is within range.

To complete the process, press the Done button.

Please keep in mind that Universal Control is still under beta testing at the time of this writing, so there may be glitches. Despite the fact that we had to restart the Mac a few times throughout our testing, we found it to be quite reliable. Restarting both the Mac and the iPad may assist if you’re having trouble getting Universal Control to work after an update.
