Track Flights in Messages
If someone sends you a flight number (say, U2502) in Messages, you should be able to tap the underlined number to see the flight’s progress plotted on a map in real time.
You can also learn more by tapping Preview Flight, which will provide you with information such as departure and arrival times, delays, and, for some airports, baggage claim details. At the bottom of the information card, you’ll find links to the airline’s website and Apple Maps.
To increase the likelihood that iOS will detect the flight number, include the full airline name as well as the number (EasyJet U2502, for example).
Track Flights in Spotlight Search
On iPhone and iPad, you can also track flights in Search.
To get departure and arrival information, simply swipe down from the centre of the Home screen and enter the flight number into the search field. Tap the information card to get the above-mentioned extra information.
Tracking Flights on a Mac
Apple has incorporated the same data detectors into macOS, allowing you to track flights on your Mac as well. Simply press the Command-Spacebar key combination to launch Spotlight and enter the flight number into the input field.
When you click on the flight data in the results, you’ll see the same information card that appears in iOS, complete with the flight’s live trajectory displayed on a map and other details.
