There are a few ways to improve PC performance in Elden Ring.
The Tom’s Guide team is a big fan of FromSoftware’s latest title, as evidenced by our review of Elden Ring. This game has it all: a huge open world, a tight gameplay experience, a mysterious narrative, and all of it. However, the game’s significant technical issues on PC are something we do not enjoy. And, unfortunately, there isn’t much the average player can do about it right now.
Elden Ring’s PC performance was not discussed in my review because it is difficult to tell if technical issues are widespread or confined to a specific hardware configuration. A quick look at Elden Ring’s Steam page, on the other hand, reveals that the game’s performance isn’t up to par. There is nothing wrong with Elden Ring’s challenging gameplay or ambiguous storey; it’s all about the game’s sluggish performance, even on powerful graphics cards.
This is something I can personally attest to. Both my custom-built desktop computer with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 and an MSI gaming laptop with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 had similar problems when playing the game. The stuttering frame rate and a serious graphical bug that made enemies invisible were both major problems. The game is meant to be difficult, but not as difficult as this one.
These problems have fixes, but most of them do not. However, here are some problems Elden Ring is currently experiencing on PC and whether you can do anything to fix them..
Frame rate stuttering on Elden Ring.
The problem is that, no matter how strong your PC is, Elden Ring will periodically stutter and stutter and stutter and stutter and stutter and stutter. In a game that relies on millisecond accuracy, this is a sure way to die.
The solution: This should go without saying, but make sure you have the most recent version of your graphics card driver installed. GeForce experience software for Nvidia GPUs and Radeon software for AMD GPUs may be used to achieve this. In spite of the fact that most gamers have probably already tried this, it’s still worth a second look — I forgot to do this before I began other troubleshooting methods, and it saved me a lot of time.
Other than that, FromSoftware states on Steam that it is “constantly trying to enhance the game so that it can be played pleasantly on different PC settings and platforms.” To put it another way: Be patient and look for a fix. Despite the fact that it’s not ideal, it’s the only option we have.
Elden Ring’s frame rate is locked.
In a game like Elden Ring, where quick, fluid animations are essential, the frame rate is stuck at 60 frames per second. For those who have strong systems that could easily handle greater frame rates, this is very annoying.
If FromSoftware chooses to uncap the frame rate, which it may not do, this is a “wait for a patch” problem. For now, there is a mod that will allow you to increase the frame rate. Unauthorized modifications and strictly restricted online play don’t mix well, thus we don’t advocate utilising it.
Glitch in Elden Ring that makes enemies invisible
Elden Ring’s enemies become invisible as soon as you target-lock them, even if it’s not as widespread as some of the other issues. Even if they are untargeted, their visibility is not restored. This additional obstacle makes it nearly impossible to play Elden Ring, a game that is already difficult to begin with.
Using my own experience, I can say that updating my GPU drivers solved the problem. If you’re experiencing similar issues and you’re sure your GPU drivers are up to date, you may want to try a clean driver install or wait for a patch.
A problem with Elden Ring Easy Anti-Cheat
Easy Anti-Cheat is the tool Elden Ring employs to keep online gaming fair for all players. Easy Anti-Cheat, on the other hand, sometimes fails to launch, meaning that the entire game fails to launch as well.
There appears to be a fix in Elden Ring’s patch 1.02.1 for this problem. It was released on February 26, so if you haven’t already, go to Steam and download it. Before the game begins, your client should have downloaded the patch.
If that doesn’t work, I was able to fix the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but that’s an extreme solution.

In order to move the camera or access menus, Elden Ring’s mouse sensitivity is much higher than it should be.
However, there are workarounds for those who insist upon playing Elden Ring using a computer mouse and keyboard. The simplest is to wait for a patch, as FromSoftware is aware of this issue and currently working on it. If you have a gaming mouse, however, you can use your software (such as Razer Synapse or Logitech G Hub) to lower your mouse DPI and hopefully find a happy medium.
The other alternative would be to just use a gamepad, such as an Xbox or DualSense controller. It’s an expensive option, but frankly, Elden Ring is a console game at heart. It’s much easier to control with a gamepad than it is with a mouse and keyboard, even when everything is working properly. Source
