A new set of facts has surfaced about the rumoured Pixel Watch prototype.

This newest flurry of leaks and speculations points to a Google Pixel Watch being released in the near future. Reddit user who claims to be in possession of the Pixel Watch has taken part in a Reddit AMA to share further hands-on information about the gadget after the discovery of a purported prototype left in a restaurant

U/tagtech414 claims the watch was discovered by one of his bartender friends, who held on to it for a few weeks until the restaurant’s owners arrived to claim it. That didn’t happen, and the watch was given to someone else, although without the band.

We’ve seen the watch itself from every aspect in the initial photos, but what else? When asked about the quality of the construction, the leaker says: “It has a high-end appearance and feel. Apple-level quality.”

A Fitbit Versa smartwatch charging connector has been proposed by one commentator as a possibility for the watch. We’ll check if Tagtech 414 can track down the charger of one of our friends and see whether it works. The problem is that the prototype is a rounded square, and the Versa range is a rounded rectangle.

The bartender only noticed the ‘G’ logo on the watch’s startup screen because he had neglected to look at it. That’s what Tagtech414 thinks is going on with the gadget. Adding the fact that the watch was discovered in a box suggests that it was never intended to be worn further strengthens this theory.

To be honest, it’s a strange circumstance. My suspicion is that Google purposefully left the watch unattended in order to create some buzz. After seeing how well the watch has been received and how much interest it has garnered, Tagtech414 revealed that he had considered this as well.

While it’s not out of the question that Google planted the watch, it’s also not out of the question. Do you recall the fiasco with the iPhone 4 prototype and Gizmodo? However, the capacity of the human mind to make foolish decisions should never be underestimated.

Some additional information regarding the physical shape of the Pixel Watch was revealed in an interview with Google. An inch and a half in diameter and a half inch thick are included in it. Dimensions are yet to be received, but Tagtech414 has stated that the watch will be measured using digital callipers for even greater accuracy. This has not occurred as of this writing.

An image taken from a closer angle reveals a bezel, and a hefty one at that. A “fairly big flat button” above the crown and a “clicking mechanism” for the crown are claimed to be comparable to those of Apple’s Watch. An apparent speaker grille and microphone can be seen on the left side of the watch; a button seems to catch and lock the watch strap. There is no real SIM card.

There’s no certainty that this is a true Pixel Watch, so we need to be sceptical about this entire thing. At the event that this is the case, it is quite unlikely that the final model would resemble the one that was found in this restaurant. However, if this is an accurate portrayal of the final Pixel Watch, things are looking up. There is just one thing missing: the same level of software and user interface.

As TagTech414’s AMA progresses, we’ll be sure to update this piece to reflect any new information we learn. The Pixel Watch is now expected to be introduced at Google I/O in May, with a retail date of October.
