Google Pixel 6a will have an older camera, which is fine

No, Google’s Pixel 6a won’t have a camera that’s as good as the Pixel 6 or the Pixel 6 Pro’s camera.

Compared to Google’s more expensive Pixel phones, the Pixel 6a appears to be an excellent value. In exchange for its $449 price tag, it will be missing out on one of the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro’s finest features.

The Pixel 6a, which was first shown off at Google I/O 2022, is capable of beating the cheapest iPhone. It’s also possible that the fingerprint scanner on the Pixel 6 could be fixed.

We’ll also see an ultra-wide 12MP camera on the Pixel 6a, but it won’t have the larger 50MP sensor found on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. All previous A-series phones have introduced the flagship cameras to the lower-end models in order to make us feel as if we were getting the best of all possible worlds. Google, however, has kept with 12MP sensors since the first Pixel phone, only changing things with its current flagship models.

Pixel 6a’s 12-megapixel camera is, in fact, based on the same sensor that was used in Pixel 5, 5a, 4 and the Pixel 3.

In addition to our previous complaints about the Pixel 6a, we’d like to note that it does away with the headphone port as well. However, this isn’t really a major concern since that wireless headphones are so widely available.

However, the Tensor chipset that powers the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro is included in the Pixel 6a, despite the lack of the Pixel 6’s top cameras. Previously, the cameras were the ‘core experience,’ as Google refers to it, but that has changed with Tensor.

Even so, the Tensor chip’s Magic Eraser photographic trick may be enough to make up for it. If the hardware falls short of our expectations, we can always hope that the software will make up the difference.

Live voice recognition is also powered by Tensor. On top of that, at Google I/O, Google demonstrated the Pixel 6a’s night mode, but it could have been the company’s response to Apple, which will not have a night mode on the iPhone SE 2022.

After months of speculation, the Pixel 6a is finally here and we can’t wait to see how it performs when it goes on sale in July at $449, £399, or AU$749.

Preordering the Google Pixel 6a is easy if you’ve already made up your mind.
