Even though the Google Pixel 6a isn’t expected to be released for another several months, rumours about the device are already circulating. And if they’re right, Google might return to the top of the list with its next low-cost phone.

When the Pixel 5a was released last year, we liked it, but it shared too many similarities with the Pixel 4a 5G for us to consider it a modern device. The cameras, CPU, and battery are all expected to be upgraded, and a new design inspired by the Pixel 6 is also on the horizon. This may be exactly the thing Google needs to dominate the best low-cost phones market share.

The only certainty we have is that it will be one of a number of new Google products that will be released in 2022. But don’t worry, we’ve got all the newest Pixel rumours and conjecture right here.

Google Pixel 6a release date and pricing predictions for consumers

An unusual colouring book leak has confirmed the existence of the Pixel 6a from Google. But when will it arrive, and how much money will you have to spend on it?

In the United States and Japan, the Pixel 5a will be launched on August 26, 2021. Google didn’t say why the phone could only be purchased in two countries, but the industry-wide chip scarcity is likely to have played a role in the decision-making processes.

The A series seems to be getting a fresh launch date in August, according to Google. The Pixel 3a was unveiled at Google I/O 2019 on May 7, however the Pixel 4 was released on August 20, 2020. Google kept to its August delivery schedule for the Pixel 5a, despite the COVID-19 epidemic cited by many. As if the Pixel 6a and the Pixel 6 were the same thing.

However, Google has the option of returning to its traditional May/Google I/O launch time frame. The Pixel 6a is expected to arrive in May, according to a report by leaker Max Jambor. According to rumours, the first Pixel Watch is expected to be unveiled in May.

A recent tweet from the company said that the Pixel 6a has been delayed until July owing to persistent chip supply concerns while the Pixel Watch may not be available until October at the earliest.

The Pixel 6a’s pricing and release date are also uncertain. At $399, the smaller Pixel 3a (which came in two sizes) was more expensive than the Pixel 4a, which was available for $349 less. The price of the Pixel 5a went risen from $399 to $449, with the addition of a second camera and 5G. Depending on the processor used by Google, the Pixel 6a might cost as little as $449.

The design and display of the Google Pixel 6a

Google’s next affordable phone might look a lot like the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, according to images of a fake Google Pixel 6a. A camera bar instead of a module, and the elimination of the 3.5mm audio port, seem to be the most significant changes.

It’s not apparent whether these photos are real or not. Pixel “A” series phones have followed the design style established forth by the flagship Pixels. As if to bolster this claim, Google Pixel 6a renderings apparently based on leaked information were released.

A picture of what looks to be a Google Pixel 6a packaging lends validity to these fake devices and renderings. It depicts a phone that looks somewhat like the Pixel 6.

However, it’s important to note that this might be a Pixel 6 box disguised as a Pixel 6a box via picture manipulation.

The rear of the phone in the leaked picture is fairly glossy, indicating it is constructed of glass like the Pixel 6 rather than the plastic backs Pixel A-series phones have employed from their beginnings. Not only is the barcode obscured, so we can’t verify the serial number.

The Pixel 6’s design, although being polarising, is different enough that it should be carried over to the Pixel 6a.

The 6.2-inch, 60Hz display on the Pixel 6a is based on a large specifications leak from Shadow leak. Compared to the Pixel 5a’s 6.4-inch display, this is a tad smaller. However, the purported refresh rate is more discouraging. Even in the price range of the Pixel a-series, many phones are already running at 90Hz, 120Hz, or even higher refresh rates. Given that the Pixel 6 has a 90Hz display as standard, Google’s choice to keep the Pixel 6a’s panel at 60Hz seems perplexing.

A new leak, this time from Yogesh Brar, indicates that 90Hz is on the horizon, which is good news. Unless Brar is on to something, the Pixel 6a might be a major letdown for everyone.

There will be three colour options: black, white, and green, according to an American carrier database. Compared to the Pixel 5a, which could only be purchased in black, this is a significant step up in quality.

Google Pixel 6a cameras

‘Bluejay’ is apparently the codename for the Pixel 6a, according to Mishaal Rahman on Twitter. Using a combination of Sony IMX363, IMX386 and IMX355 sensors, Rahman came up with a viable camera arrangement for bluejay. Specs for Shadow leak By stating the 6a would include a 12MP primary camera, 12MP ultrawide camera, and 8MP selfie camera, a leak has rounded out what we already know.

Remember that the Pixel 5a’s primary sensor had an IMX363 with 12 MP, and the front-facing camera had an IMX355 with 8 MP, as well. That doesn’t mean the new 12MP IMX386 sensor is inferior than the 16MP IMX481. Compared to the IMX481’s 1.0 m pixel size, this one has 1.25 m. Even though the Pixel 6a has a lower pixel count, it should be able to create superior overall photos because of its larger pixels.

Specs and Review of the Pixel 6a

Google Tensor from the Pixel 6 is expected to be included in the Pixel 6a, along with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, according to Shadow leak’s intel. In addition, a Geekbench test result that seems to be for the 6a, which has the same specifications as the Tensor processor, plus 6GB of RAM, supports this.

Another recent Geekbench listing supposedly showed the Pixel 6a outperforming the Pixel 6 by the tiniest of margins. The gadget in issue scored 1,050 in single-core and 2,833 in multicore. Look at the Pixel 6’s 1,044 and 2,758 scores compared to that. In Geekbench standards, this difference is inconsequential, but it’s great to see that the Pixel 6a may be on pace with the Pixel 6 This suggests that the 6a uses the same Tensor chip given the similarities in performance.

The usage of the Tensor chip is wonderful news. It’s a high-end chipset that’s comparable to last year’s Snapdragon 888 in terms of performance. The Pixel 6a may be the most powerful phone in its pricing category save the iPhone SE or the impending iPhone SE 3.

Battery and charging for the Google Pixel 6a

The reports indicate we’ll see a 4,800 mAh battery with 30W charging in the Pixel 6a. In comparison to the Pixel 5a’s 4,680 mAh battery, this is a tiny capacity gain, but it represents an enormous boost in charging speed over the Pixel 5a’s 18W.

The only thing that may go wrong is that the Pixel 6 series does not come with any chargers. As such, it’s hardly surprising that the Pixel 6a comes without one.

Apple iPhone SE vs. Google Pixel 6a in the year 2022

For $429, the iPhone SE 2022 has an A15 Bionic processor with 5G connectivity, making the Pixel 6a’s competition tougher. In spite of its lack of a second camera, Apple’s flagship-level smartphone still has exceptional picture quality. However, it features the same 4.7-inch display.

According to reports, the iPhone SE 3 and the Google Pixel 6a will face off in a head-to-head competition in 2022.

Google’s new Pixel 6a: a glance to the future

Pixel 6a looks better than Pixel 5a did at launch based on current leaks. An updated CPU, a tweak to the ultrawide back camera, quicker charging, and a bigger battery make this phone more powerful than a typical mid-range smartphone. All of these changes are wonderful.

However, Google must exercise caution while setting the pricing of the Pixel 6a in order to make it into our list of the best Android phones. If the Pixel 5a’s $449 pricing had been slashed to $400 or less, the phone would have been even more appealing.

The Pixel 6a should be available in more countries than only the United States and Japan. Although computer processors are in limited supply throughout the world, Google’s supporters in other nations may still purchase the phone if they so choose.
