Google Pixel 6a may outperform the cheapest iPhone

In the Google I/O 2022 keynote, when the Pixel 6a was unveiled, Google made a point to show off the camera’s Night Sight feature. The Pixel 5a and Pixel 4a both have this feature, so why bother with it?

That’s why, as I’ll explain. Google was attempting to make a point that Apple’s inexpensive phone doesn’t have. For a contemporary smartphone, even one of the best-selling budget models like the iPhone SE 2022, the lack of a night mode is a serious omission.

For $449/AU$749, the Pixel 6a is a significant upgrade over the iPhone SE. Moreover, the Pixel 6a has several significant benefits over the iPhone SE. So much so that a head-to-head comparison of the Pixel 6a and iPhone SE may not even be fair. Here’s how the Pixel 6a outperforms the iPhone SE, as well as some areas where Google lags.

Because of the excellent screen on the Pixel 6A,

Starting with the display and design, let’s get started. At 6.1 inches, the Pixel 6a’s display is smaller than the Pixel 5a’s at 6.3 inches. The iPhone SE’s 4.7-inch screen, on the other hand, is tiny in comparison. Despite the fact that some individuals like to possess one of the greatest little phones, most people now prefer bigger displays.

The LCD screen of the iPhone SE is inferior to that of the Pixel 6a’s OLED display. Expect deeper blacks and broader viewing angles, as well as a larger range of high-quality colours. As far as the brightness is concerned, we’ll have to wait and see what happens

For the Pixel 6a’s screen, that takes us to a second important advantage: what’s on and surrounding it. The answer is not much in the case of Google’s phone. This is a full-screen experience with obvious bezels. The iPhone SE, on the other hand, has a chin and bezels that only Jay Leno would like. To be fair, the Touch ID button can be found here, but I’d rather to have it integrated into the screen.

So does Google with the Pixel 6a, which is precisely the same. Because it’s hidden behind the screen, the fingerprint reader on this phone should be lightning-fast. To be honest, given how slow the reader has been on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, I’m doubtful.

Best camera phone, please!

In terms of cameras, Google has already surpassed Apple. It’s important to note that I used plural cameras. A 12.2MP primary camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens are included in the Pixel 6a, compared to a single 12MP camera in the iPhone SE. So, when it comes to photography, Google comes out on top in terms of adaptability.

As we’ve previously discussed, this applies to photography at night or in the dark. The iPhone SE lacks Google’s Magic Eraser for erasing undesired objects or subjects from images, which is available on the Pixel 6a.

The same Tensor technology that runs the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro also powers the Pixel 6a, which enables the Magic Eraser function. As the A15 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 13 is used in the iPhone SE, this is a direct rip-off of Apple. Faster voice recognition and real-time translation are only two examples of the additional capabilities Tensor provides.

My expectations for the Tensor chip aren’t that it will exceed the iPhone SE in benchmarks or intense games. Due to the fact that our comparison of the iPhone 13 vs. Google Pixel 6 revealed that the A15 Bionic is a more powerful processor than the one found in the Pixel 6. Buyers receptive to Android, on the other hand, may be ready to put up with the inconvenience.

The iPhone SE vs. the Pixel 6a: What’s the difference?

The iPhone SE, with its starting price of $429 (or AU$719), is the more affordable option. However, if you look closely, you’ll see that you only receive 64GB of storage at the outset. Compared to the Pixel 6a, which comes with 128GB as standard, the 128GB version costs $479/AU$799, a difference of $30/AU$80.

It’s possible that the Pixel 6a’s battery life will fall short of the iPhone SE’s. The Pixel 5a’s battery life wasn’t the longest, and the Pixel 6a has a lesser battery capacity than its predecessor (4,410 mAh vs 4,680 mAh). However, the software and the processor also have a significant effect in the time it takes to run.

Obviously, we’ll be comparing the two phones side-by-side when the Pixel 6a is released in July. Google’s Pixel 6a, on the other hand, seems to be the best affordable phone now on the market. Preordering the Google Pixel 6a is easy if you’ve already made up your mind.
