The Gallery Go app’s new app icon looks to have deleted the “Go” element of its moniker, according to 9to5Google.com. The app’s name has been simplified to “Gallery” as of version 1.8.8.436428459.
As a “lite” alternative to Google Photos, Gallery Go was initially released in 2019. There may be less demand for “Go” equivalents now that even low-cost devices have more RAM and CPU capability. In addition, it’s possible that Google is only trying to appeal to a broader demographic with its Gallery app.
An announcement about the end of YouTube Go was made earlier this month. Improved controls for low-data users should be added to the basic YouTube app for low-end devices.
