Meta has updated the Facebook Messenger app with Vanish Mode and Split Payments, as well as enhancements for Instagram in honour of Safer Internet Day.

The Facebook Messenger update emphasises new capabilities that give users more control over chat content. Voice messages, for example, may now be up to 30 minutes long, and Vanish Mode adds Snapchat-style messaging.

Messages vanish as soon as they are viewed in Vanish Mode. This includes text messages, GIFs, stickers, and responses.

The Divide Payments tool allows a group of friends to equally split a payment or set how much each member owes. The Split Payment request is issued with a customised message in a group chat, and those who don’t have payment information supplied may quickly do so from the prompt.

Instagram’s new Security Checkup feature is rolling out to users

Instagram’s new features, first reported by 9to5Mac, are aimed towards encouraging Safer Internet Day. Users are guided through the measures required to safeguard their accounts via Security Checkup. The Your Activity tool allows users to manage material, conversations, and more in bulk.

Instagram also teased a new feature that will allow friends to confirm a person’s identity when they are locked out of their account.
