A foldable iPad or a mix of the iPad and iPhone might be Apple’s first Foldable iPhone in 2025, according to my estimates.

An Apple supply chain source claims that the tech giant is now working on a 9-inch foldable gadget, which may be released as early as 2025 at the earliest.

Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known leaker of correct information about Apple’s future intentions, responded to Friday’s news that Apple is working with LG on new foldable OLED screens “Currently testing a 9-inch folding tablet.

Kuo took to Twitter to make the following statement:

Medium, giant, and tiny appear to be Apple’s top three foldable device size priorities. Apple is actively testing foldable OLED approximately 9″ (PPI between iPhone & iPad, adoption of TDDI) (PPI between iPhone & iPad, adoption of TDDI). The test may not represent the final product specification, but it is meant to check important technologies.

So long as it’s working, it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t meet the final product specifications. According to Kuo, “medium, big, and tiny” are the three categories in which Apple’s foldable development timetable would be prioritised. According to Kuo, the new gadget would include a touchscreen that is both touchable and displayable (TDDI).

He went on to suggest that he now believes that 2025 is a more feasible target date for Apple to release a foldable phone, revising his previous forecast that the company will do it in 2024.

The foldable iPhone was projected to be released by Apple in 2024, but now it is evident that this forecast has to be amended. According to my estimations for the year 2025, Apple will release its first foldable device, a folding iPad or an iPad/iPhone hybrid.

This gadget, he now says, will emerge in 2025, and may be either a foldable iPad or an iPad/iPhone combination, as previously indicated.

In the past, Apple has been rumoured to be working on foldable products, including a new iPhone. The DSCC has also postponed its hopes for a foldable iPhone until 2025, according to Ross Young in February:

After consulting with our supply chain connections, we have pushed back our predictions for Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market by two years to 2025. For now, it appears that the corporation has no plans to enter the foldable smartphone industry.

Later this year, Apple is likely to release a new best-in-class iPhone that will not be foldable but will have improved processing and camera capabilities over the iPhone 13.
