Dying Light 2 Stay Human is slated to be released on nearly every platform this Friday (February 4), but it looks that some retail copies have already arrived in the hands of anxious gamers. This isn’t an unusual circumstance – it happens with most popular games — but it does imply that some key spoilers have leaked online.

Techland, the game’s creator, revealed on Twitter that some gamers are obtaining early access, but urged even the most ardent Dying Light fans to wait until the game’s official release date before playing. Also ‘Dear Edward,’ a drama from the creator of ‘Friday Night Lights,’ has been announced on Apple TV+

“We kindly ask you to wait until February 4th [to play] since by that time you’ll also have access to all upgrades and fixes we’ve done in the previous weeks and will introduce with the day 1 patch,” Techland says. That is the only way to play Dying Light 2 the way it was intended.”

On the surface, this seems like a reasonable request, and it’s worth considering if you gain early access to Dying Light 2. We already know that this highly anticipated sequel will be substantially larger than its predecessor, which suggests that Techland has been working hard to iron out a slew of flaws and issues ahead of launch. Playing the game before the day one patch is nearly assured to be a subpar experience.

Of course, while sensible, this request is unlikely to be granted. Gamers, after all, aren’t exactly known for their patience. If someone does obtain a copy early, they’ll almost certainly start playing right away, especially if it’s a title they’ve been looking forward to for months or even years to play.

Techland’s request for gamers to wait and enjoy Dying Light 2 “the way it’s supposed to be played” has been mainly met with approval on social media. However, it has spurred some gamers to urge that the game’s release date be pushed up by a few of days – a request that will not be granted.

Given the seven-year gap between the first Dying Light and its upcoming sequel, a few extra days of anticipation can’t hurt.
