Due to a shortage of chips, Apple supplier BOE is having difficulty manufacturing iPhone displays

As a result of the current worldwide semiconductor scarcity, Apple supplier BOE is struggling to produce the OLED screens used in iPhones, according to The Elec. According to the site’s sources, the scarcity will have an effect on output “this month and next month.”

However, LX Semicon’s manufacturing of display driver ICs for Apple’s iPhone display panels is falling short of expectations. It seems that LX Semicon is providing LG Display with display driver ICs prior to BOE’s manufacturing capability.

Consequently, BOE expects to reduce its OLED panel manufacturing capacity from three million units to two million units next month. OLED panel shortages have been reported for the first half of 2022, although it’s not clear whether this would affect iPhone production.
