Dead Space 2 will be released by EA in January 2023.

The upcoming remake of EA’s 2008 horror game Dead Space was first announced in July of this year. After a livestream from the developers today (May 12), we finally know exactly when we may play it: January 27, 2023. Over an hour of information was broadcast during the livestream, including new images and the same eerie atmosphere as in the original.

Motive’s senior producer Philippe Ducharme, creative director Roman Campos-Oriola, and art director Mike Yazijian presented a livestream on YouTube. The Dead Space remake’s art direction and release date were discussed over the course of nearly an hour.

The webcast covered a wide range of topics, from bringing the visuals up to date for today’s consoles to meeting the demands of the viewers. Motivation wants to “respect the legacy of the cult classic series,” as well as build an immersive sci-fi environment that feels lived in and frightening rather than sterile or pleasant. There was also some discussion about the Necromorphs’ symbolic meaning for those of you who enjoy your survival/horror with a little thought.

If anything, the Dead Space remake’s faithfulness to the original game is the most impressive aspect of it. If you’re looking forwards to a similar gameplay experience, anticipate the same weapons, stages, structures, and even decorations. The PS5 and Xbox Series X are capable of considerably more nuanced sounds than their predecessors, thus the creators are devoting special attention to the audio design to help gamers feel more immersed.

It’s an action/horror game that was released in 2008 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 consoles. As an engineer on the USG Ishimura, a future spacecraft tormented by monsters, you play Isaac Clarke. The Necromorphs, Clarke’s horrific opponents, had weak points in their limbs rather than their heads, which meant that smart (and brutal) dismemberment was crucial to success in Dead Space.

There were two more games in the series, as well as a few spin-offs, but the series has been somewhat quiet since 2013. A reboot isn’t precisely what fans want, but it’s at least a step in the right direction for the franchise. If Starfield doesn’t get delayed, Dead Space will have a new(ish) entry in January.
