Developer Infinity Ward has stated that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will be the next game in the series.

In recent months, we’ve known for a while that this year’s Call of Duty game will be a sequel to Modern Warfare, which itself was a remake of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare from 2007. It was previously unknown what this sequel will be titled, but now we have an idea. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the game’s official name. This is a guessing game, so don’t bother.

As far as we know, Modern Warfare 2 will have a cinematic campaign with the usual Call of Duty multiplayer options. The free-to-play battle royale game Call of Duty Warzone is also expected to be heavily integrated. Expect a new Warzone map to be unveiled with Modern Warfare 2 like last year’s Call of Duty Vanguard.

In the single-player campaign of Modern Warfare 2, players will face battle against the Columbian cartel in a drug war. Close-quarters action, difficult decision-making, and the typical Call of Duty set-piece moments are all expected in the campaign, according to reports. It’s also a safe bet that Ghost, one of the show’s most popular characters, will make a reappearance.

Naturally, many people will be aware with the moniker “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” since the title was used for a prior game that was launched in 2009 under the same name. Activision has clarified that this year’s Modern Warfare 2 will not be a replica of the 14-year-old classic, despite rumours to the contrary. It’s simply that it has the same name as the franchise’s most popular game, which is certain to generate some misunderstanding.

The release date for Modern Warfare 2 is still up in the air. For the most part, the series has published around November, with a few of titles releasing in late October. Modern Warfare 2 has yet to be announced, although this is unusual for a Call of Duty game this early in the year.

Another possible cause for this early disclosure is the poor sales of Call of Duty Vanguard from last year. As a top-selling game in 2021, it didn’t seem to hold player attention for lengthy periods of time. In order to resurrect the Modern Warfare series, Activision may be releasing Modern Warfare 2 immediately.
