Only a few months after the release of Call of Duty Vanguard has the spotlight shifted to Call of Duty 2022. If the series’ most recent return to WWII wasn’t as well received as expected, it’s a good thing it’ll be returning to its most well-known location this year.

Activision, the game’s publisher, has officially announced in a blog post that Call of Duty 2022 will be Modern Warfare 2. This follows weeks of speculation. Confusion reigns, don’t you think? Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was launched in 2009 for the PS3 and Xbox 360, so we can’t say we blame you.

To avoid any misunderstandings, the popular shooter series’ 2019 Modern Warfare revival will serve as the basis for this year’s instalment. Activision has yet to decide whether or not a subtitle is necessary to differentiate between the two titles. Of course, sharing a name with the franchise’s best-known entry has its advantages.

There aren’t much concrete information about Call of Duty 2022 at this time. On social media, the game’s official name and logo were released, but this was the first time it was made public. This year’s Call of Duty, though, has given us a few hints as to what’s in store.

Speculation on the release date of Call of Duty in 2022

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s release date has been set for 2022 since a new Call of Duty has been published every year since 2005.

No one knows exactly when the game will be released in 2022. It’s not unusual for a Call of Duty game to be released on November 1, with a few exceptions. However, it has been revealed that Call of Duty 2022 would be released much earlier than normal.

Could the early appearance of Call of Duty 2022 be a clue that the game will be released sooner than planned, as is often the case? It’s too early to know for sure, but the most likely release date is in October or November of this year.

An organisation that may create Call of Duty in 2022 has been named.

There are a number of Activision-owned studios that work on the Call of Duty series. While Sledgehammer Games worked on Vanguard the previous year, Treyarch will be responsible for Black Ops Cold War in 2020. (with support from Raven Software).

That means Infinity Ward, the original developer of the franchise, is once again taking the reins. It’s only logical that the California-based team, who worked on Modern Warfare in 2019, would head the creation of its successor.

What do we know about the Call of Duty: 2022 gameplay?

Call of Duty 2022 will be a first-person shooter with a variety of multiplayer modes and a theatrical single-player campaign, even though no gameplay information have yet been released about the game.

It’s not clear yet what modes will be featured, although most previous games in the series have divided gameplay into three distinct sections. Traditional Call of Duty online multiplayer modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed are very certainly returning in the next Call of Duty.

In addition, a stand-alone story mode is in the cards. Modern Warfare 3’s plot hanging narrative threads are likely to be picked up by its sequel, which is expected to follow the same formula as Black Ops 4’s campaign.

It’s doubtful that the Call of Duty single-player campaign will be reimagined in 2022. As a result, be prepared for a 4-5 hour marathon of shooting galleries interspersed with a few heavily planned set piece sequences.

As far as we can tell, Call of Duty 2022 will be driven by a new engine, which should improve the series’ visuals. The PS5 and Xbox Series X should be well-suited to this engine’s capabilities.

Even while multiplayer maps for Call of Duty 2022 have yet to be announced, there’s little harm in hoping anyhow.

We’re crossing our hopes that some of the original Modern Warfare 2’s iconic shooting areas will make a return. Long-time gamers will be delighted to see the likes of Afghan, Terminal, and Favela resurface with a new look.

‘Call of Duty: 2022 Warzone’

Additionally, a “new Warzone experience” has been announced for release with Call of Duty 2022 in the same blog post.

We don’t yet know whether this is a complete Warzone 2 or simply a big improvement to the existing free to play game of battle royale. Call of Duty 2022’s engine will be used for this new Warzone, therefore we may expect native versions on the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles.

Infinity Ward is leading the development of this new Warzone adventure, which is expected to be free-to-play like its predecessor. It is expected to become live in 2022.
