Customers may soon be able to pay by tapping the gadget itself with a new Square Reader on the horizon.
A third-generation Square Stand looks to be in the works at Block Inc, the payment startup that was once known by the trade name Square.. An NFC contact and a card reader are incorporated into the outside edge of the iPad stand, which has yet to be unveiled.

Using the Square App on an iPad requires an external card reader at this time. Merchants would have fewer parts to monitor if the card reader was built into the iPad.
Users of Apple Pay and “other contactless payments” may now just tap an iOS app to pay for goods and services.
