The Black Dahlia Murder’s lead singer and co-founder, Trevor Strnad, died at the age of 41. Social media was used by his bandmates to announce his passing. There was no explanation given, however a phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline was provided alongside the news.

In a 2021 interview with Metal Injection, Strnad revealed how he coped with the demands of being the band’s vocalist by drinking heavily while on tour. For him, “it’s compounded in some self-doubt, in more nervousness,” he added, as the band grew in size and attention.

In order for him to “segue into being an older metalhead gracefully,” he added, “I want my 40s to be wonderful.” He expressed his hope for the Black Dahlia Murder to continue for another 20 years.

Strud added that he was pursuing psychedelic and ketamine therapy to assist him break out of old self-defeating thought patterns during the two years of the pandemic, which had been “very dangerous” for him.

He added that speaking publicly about his mental health has been beneficial to him. To me, this is a way of letting others know that I’m a real person, and that I’m not the only one who goes through this.
