Most people have heard of Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, but I’ve never really gone there. As a result, I’m unable to say whether or not this sauce tastes anything like theirs.

While I like it, my husband thought it might have been hotter and more flavorful. Consequently, I’m going with what he has to say now! I like what I hear!

A little spicier than your normal mustard sauce, this one is one of my favourites. However, that’s exactly what made it so delicious!!

To prepare Mardi Gras mustard sauce, you’ll need mayonnaise, horseradish, cayenne, garlic powder, dark brown sugar, spicy brown mustard, and grain mustard. Sauce is ready when all ingredients are combined.

As far as I’m concerned, this sauce was the perfect accompaniment to the spicy-hot chicken tenders I cooked up for my husband! So I’m certain that you’ll love my spoof Mardi Gras Mustard Dipping Sauce and the accompanying chicken! We had a great time!

Mardi Gras Mustard Sauce Recipe

It’s sweet and spicy, like the Mardi Gras mustard sauce. The sauce is a fantastic match for the chicken wings.

EQUIPMENT

  • Small
  • Blender

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp Mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp Hot Horseradish
  • ¼ tsp Cajun Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp Crushed Red Pepper
  • ⅛ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/16 tsp Cayenne
  • 2 tsp Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Spicy Brown Mustard
  • 1 tbsp Grain Mustard

INSTRUCTIONS 

  • Add mayonnaise, hot horseradish, Cajun seasoning, red pepper, garlic powder, cayenne, dark brown sugar, spicy brown mustard and grain mustard into a small bowl and stir to blend well.
  • Pop into the fridge and let sit a half an hour or longer to let the flavors blend and the sugar crystals fully dissolve.
  • Stir before serving.

Notes

1 cup of sugar The two mustards may be substituted with Zatarain’s Creole Mustard if you have some on hand. Cajun spice, crushed red pepper, and garlic powder may need to be reduced or tinkered with if you decide to use this brand.
