It’s just a few weeks away from Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC 2022, and the company is already making plans. The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference is a showcase for the next generation of operating systems that power all of Apple’s devices, including iPhones, Macs, iPads, Apple Watches, and Apple TVs.

This year’s WWDC will be streamed live online only, in keeping with previous Apple events. When it comes to anticipating what significant new features Apple may introduce in 2022, this announcement is effectively the start of the gun

It’s fairly uncommon for Apple to release developer betas for upcoming OS updates within a few days of their keynotes, in addition to announcing new features and functionality. In the following months and weeks, more stable public betas will be provided, and in the fall, the final versions will be launched in conjunction with new hardware.

WWDC 2022 dates

This year’s WWDC will run from June 6 through June 10. This year’s keynote and State of the Union films will be released on June 6. The keynote addresses the general public, whereas the State of the Union addresses developers.

The keynote for WWDC 2022 will begin at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT/6 p.m. GMT on June 6, 2022. Apple is set to broadcast the event live on its WWDC website, YouTube, and the Apple TV application. The “Swiftly Approaching” text and silhouettes of five people in the Apple logo colours appear on the keynote invitation shown above. This is a play on the Swift programming language, which is used by Apple’s software developers.

During WWDC 2022, the Apple Design Awards will also be given out.

iOS 16

Both the Health app and how notifications are handled on iPhones are rumoured to be getting a substantial overhaul in iOS 16. (opens in new tab). According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (opens in new tab).

like iOS 15, it’s likely to share a lot of its best features with other Apple OS devices. These capabilities are as much Apple features as they are iPhone features, such Live Text and SharePlay, which allow users to watch a TV or movie together from afar. In a subsequent piece, he also hinted at new Apple apps coming with iOS 16.

Owners of iPhones frequently extol the virtues of their devices’ continual software updates. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, both of which are six years old, may not be included in iOS 16, according to a recent leak.

While we love iOS 15’s Focus Modes, there’s a general consensus online that Apple can do better with this feature in the future.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the long-rumored Apple AR/VR headgear could make an appearance with iOS 16. We don’t know what the headset’s features are, but it would still be a significant deal if it was confirmed.

macOS 13

In recent years, Macs have become more integrated into the Apple ecosystem. With Universal Control, customers can use the same mouse and keyboard to control both their Macs and iPads at the same time.

Mac OS X Mavericks 13: What’s New? For the time being, we don’t know for sure, but it appears that Apple will continue to provide you with reasons to stay in the MacOS ecosystem.

watchOS 9

More health and fitness enhancements, as well as connection with Apple HomeKit, Apple Wallet and Apple Fitness Plus were some of our predictions when we first wrote about watchOS 9. Nonetheless, what watchOS 9 features do we hope Apple will reveal at WWDC 2022?

If the iPhone’s Health app gets a significant presence on the Apple Watch, we’d be thrilled. For this programme, the Apple Watch is an ideal location because it already captures most of the data it needs.

A Notes App for the Apple Watch would be a great addition as well. TG staff members frequently use third-party applications to take notes on the fly and check their shopping lists, and we’re curious why Apple hasn’t yet.

Also, Apple, give us a break. Fitness app streaks can be a source of anxiety for some of us, as we’re so focused on maintaining them. Making it easier for people to take time out of their schedules for mental health would be a significant benefit.

iPadOS 16

It’s a fascinating read. Many consumers may have been frustrated by the iPad’s reluctance to become more Mac-like with iPadOS 15, despite improvements in multitasking and the introduction of widgets.

As good a time as any to reveal that iPads can now run Mac apps is WWDC 2022, especially since the iPad Air 2022 features an M1 chip. In the end, what’s the problem? Macs can run iPad apps.

tvOS 16

We haven’t heard anything yet about what tvOS 16 will bring, but we do have two requests. To begin with, is it possible for Apple to provide external webcam functionality in the Apple TV? FaceTime SharePlay forces you to juggle your Apple devices if you don’t have it.

Secondly, bring the Mac and iPad’s split-screen functionality over. Think of it as picture-in-picture, but with a lot more horsepower. Fubo TV’s multi-stream view is a godsend to sports fans and anyone else attempting to keep tabs on multiple channels at the same time.

Also, find a way to integrate Find My Device capability into the Apple TV control.

Hardware: Apple VR headset, MacBook Air or new Mac Pro?

As with Apple and Epic Games, hoping for a huge product launch at WWDC isn’t always successful. Nevertheless, people’s expectations are constantly raised, and this year we have two technologies that we believe are unquestionably feasible.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that a MacBook Air 2022 and another Mac will be unveiled at WWDC 2022. MacBook Air 2022 supposedly powered by a new M2 chip and will be available in a variety of vibrant colours. At the conference, we’ll have to wait and see what’s on the agenda.

After that is the new Mac Pro powered by Apple’s latest silicon-enabled processors. There are a lot of people in the developer community who will be eager to see what Apple has in store for them in 2022, so WWDC would be a great place to give them a taste of what they may expect. Again, no one is guaranteeing it, but it would be good if it did.

However, we have to ask how much time Apple will allow third-party app developers to design apps for the Apple VR/AR headset at WWDC 2022. We don’t expect to see the final hardware at WWDC 202, but Apple could tease the fabled realityOS, which would operate on the headset. Recent reports point to a 2023 release. According to reports, iO6 16 is heavily linked to Apple’s rumoured AR/VR headset, iO6 16. (opens in new tab).
