Apple reportedly developing new Mac Studio — Everything we know so far

Reports claim that Apple is working on a new Mac Studio equipped with M1 processors.

According to a recent leak from within Apple, the firm is working on a new “Mac Studio” that might cover the gap between the Mac Pro and the Mac mini.

Apple’s desktop Mac business may be in for some major changes if the source is accurate and the new Mac Studio (or whatever the final name is) has a previously unseen piece of Apple hardware.

There are two new desktop Macs presently in development at Apple under the codename “J375,” according to 9to5Mac. There are two models, one with the same M1 Max processor as the MacBook Pro 2021, and the other with a more powerful M1 version. Considering that the Apple M1 Max is the most powerful Mac CPU ever, the possibility that Apple is working on a desktop with even more power is highly intriguing.

Earlier this year, frequent Apple tipster Mark Gurman told 9to5Mac that a “half-sized Mac Pro” powered by an M1 chip was in the works.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is also working on a 7K monitor called the Apple Studio Display. In terms of resolution, it would beat the 6K Pro Display XDR, which is Apple’s current highest-resolution display. According to Gurman, Apple plans to sell a new display for ‘half the price’ of the Pro Display XDR in 2022, which would make it more expensive.

If it works out, maybe more people will be able to experience the thrill of using an Apple display. The $5,000 price tag of the Pro Display XDR makes it unaffordable for everyone except the most experienced users.

With a starting price of $5,999, the Mac Pro is a fairly powerful (and yet Intel-powered) desktop. For most people, the best Mac is last year’s M1-powered Mac mini, rather than the newer, more expensive Mac mini with M2. Mini’s M1 processor provides decent power, but it’s not much for gaming or video work. There’s little doubt in my mind that a new M1-powered Mac from Apple might be one of this year’s top computers if it does come to market.

Even if these rumours are genuine, Apple’s next Peek Performance presentation on Tuesday will not include any mention of these new mid-range Mac Studios (March 8). The smart money is on Apple revealing the iPhone SE 3, iPad Air 5, and maybe a MacBook at WWDC this year. Anything is possible, so keep an eye on things. Source
